No such thing as a "dumb" question right? lol

Is there a way to turn off airbags prior to offroading or is this not necessary anymore?

Yup. It's still happening. I just watched a YouTube video where a dude popped his side curtain on a 2017 taco slipping off a rock.

I'm sure you could just pull the airbag fuses.

Not an issue for me.....no rock ledges at the mall

There's an option to turn off the side curtain airbags in the 4Runner, seems like the Taco should have the same option. They do tend to go off if tipped to much, to hard, to fast.

The RSCA button turns off the curtains on my '14. You have to hold it for three seconds. Not sure if they continued this for 3rd gen or how far back it goes. I always turn them off but hadn't really considered turning off front from the fuse.

Subbed for some one to elaborate how "extreme" of an angle you have to be at to set off an side curtain airbag, or if it only goes off when you start to actually roll over

Not sure what the parameters are, but I read about it in the manual. I had it in my 88 4Runner and never knew what the heck it was. I finally committed to reading the damn instructions this time. It may lay out those details but it recommended to use it when off-roading.
