I'm sorry to laugh, but this almost made me spit my drink out! To be clear, I'm not laughing at you, it's the situation, because I can total see where you're coming from!

Some tips for using a random-orbit sander from a novice who is still learning:
    • Hook up a dust collector to keep the sanding pad clean. Those dust "collection" bags are a joke. It's not just to keep the air clean, but also to pull dust off your work surface.
    • You want to make sure nothing gets between the sanding disc and the surface of your board. Any little spec of debris can cause swirls as it's dragged across the surface.
    • Push down with just enough pressure to keep the sander level, and let the sander do the work. Too much pressure may reduce the life of the motor and also may cause the sander to dig in to your work surface.
    • Sand along the grain in long, steady passes from one end of your work piece to the other. Avoid circular and/or back and forth motions. Each pass slightly overlapping the previous pass. This keeps consistency and helps prevent sanding deeper in certain areas more than others.
    • Use the side of a pencil to lightly mark wave patterns over your work surface. Not only will this give you visual cues where you've sanded, it'll show you areas that aren't flat and need more attention. When the pencil marks are gone, it's time to move to the next higher grit.
    • Vacuum/Dust off your work surface between sanding to reduce the amount of loose sand particles being dragged by the next sanding.
My apologies if this has been mentioned before.

Side note: I'm just using a cheap Bauer random-orbit sander I picked up from Harbor Frieght. I slpurge on better quality sanding discs!

Stumpy Nubs has a good video on this:

The wife makes baby blankets for family, friends, and co-workers. She had a request for a Thin Blue Line flag.

The baby's name is Leo, BTW... As in Law Enforcement Officer lol

I'm trying to decide whether to let that one be a regular board or give it handles and make it a tray. :notsure:
