    Those actually interest me... Hmm...

@Gen1TacoLady I would imagine a spar varnish on those would make them hold up to being coasters. I do have a compressor and spray gun to make quick work of that :anonymous:

They have spar varnish on them, so Troy can tell us how they hold up.

I should probably make a few more. :)

I like to spray my finishes when I can. They sell spray cans of the spar and regular poly, but I mix mine "hot" to dry faster. Doesn't work so great with a gloss though.

That spar finish is awesome. Not sure how long it will last but its pretty much sealed forever on a coaster

There is another option to felt-sheets ... flocking (seriously called "flocking"). You buy the color you want from the company named on the can ... glue color matches the powder. Spread the glue, then used the tube to "push" the powder out and seals against the glue. You have technically 10 minutes from glue exposure to air to "locked in", but I found 5 minutes is more realistic. If you experiment you may find a way to use all 10 minutes. Flocking is what jewelry cases and gun cases use to prevent rubbing against hard woods.

    Flocking.jpg

Here is a nightstand I wanted. I spent much time designing the side flip-downs to store an item I wanted easy access to in the middle of the night. Also "just because" ... you can understand that. The flocking started as a color contract (the color is "Wine", but they make "red", "forest green", "blue", "yellow" ...) against the whiter wood. Design was considered but I caved in a little on quality because I wanted the table. You can see how I still need practive applying the flocking.

    Nightstand.jpg

Close up of the flip-down you can see the special structure I built (two thin pieces, blocks in the middle) and you can see how flocking adapts to complex shapes the way felt padding does not easily.

    SpecialtyHolder.jpg

Finally the leg bottoms ... 1x3 poplar that is embedded in the 2x2 poplar legs with 45 degree slits.

    NightStandLegs.jpg

Just for grins ... two other projects. First is my attempt at a serving tray. Poplar mostly, walnut and white oak alternating in the middle.

    ServingBoard.jpg

And a towel rack. Was renting a house, needed a towel rack closer to the shower and did not have the right to put something in the wall. Overlapping joints allow 3 dowel bars, 4 ft wide. Can hold 3 full size towels or 2 full-size and 2 hand towels.

Your skill with finishing is impressive. I get within 90% at best on finishing, then I give up and settle for a practical "good enough".

    I am jealous.

This is what my stove top look like.

    714wI7TzKRL._AC_SX679_.jpg

I had to cut out the counter to install this range. Took a loss on counter space

By cutting holes, I think stiff will have a chance to spill underneath the cover. I'm going to use a flat edge to line up with the burners and see if height a issue.

Oh! Ok, I gotcha. Is there a gap between the range and the sides? I wonder if you could put a lip on the underside to keep a cover in place. :notsure:
