I just did this with Gates idler pulleys and replaced the tensioner pulley bearing with the Nachi bearing. Not terribly difficult. Would have been way harder to replace the entire tensioner.

Have 208k miles on my 2015 v6, and I have some growling in the tensioner pulley when I turn on the AC.

I’m trying to take this truck to 400k miles, and I’m debating if I should swap just the pulley or the entire tensioner like OP. I also need to install a new alternator (rpm whine at higher rpms when AC is on) and would be able to take care of that at the same time. It’s just that dealing with the AC compressor doesn’t look like fun.

Any advice is appreciated here - I guess my question is: Do tensioners (spring or other components) tend to fail with enough miles, or is addressing the pulley good enough to keep the truck happy?
