Yeah dude, thanks! The drivetrain was in much better shape than I expected!
Oddly enough and not your fault at all that KMC chain failed catastrophically a few days after install, one of the links shredded open. Definitely a warranty issue but KMC never responded

Sure. That totally make more sense but I am just thankful to have working brakes for now. So far I haven't noticed a disparity between the two

That’s interesting... I’m so sorry to hear that!! Hopefully it didn’t end in a big crash or a painful ET spin. Do you have pics of the failure?

Yes sir, thats the exact caliper I run with my XTRs, from the same eBay seller even.

Edit: you may need a new bolt, these take a shorter one, but you can use the same hose/banjo

What is this bike primarily used for?
Until COVID this was my daily commuter bike as well out my long-ride on weekends bike. Threw on some flat bars and WTB 700x42c Resolute tires to do a 24 hour MTB race with some friends last summer and finally switched back to drop bars and stock tires. Now I mostly do long road rides on weekends, mix of pavement and gravel.

Cockpit preferences?
Just put drop bars back on, so no preferences or changes needed until I can get out this week and discover what's bothering me.

Tires and pressures?
Really enjoyed the WTB Resolutes, but now I need something more efficient for longer rides. Thinking about switching to WTB Byways in 700x34c.

Anything custom, or specific to you?
Not yet since switching back to nearly stock.

Awesome man! I live just south of you in Los Lunas and have the exact same CX bike. I love that bike. I ride it all over Valencia county. Where in burque do you typically ride yours?

If I'm staying in city, I do some form of the 50 mile activity loop with a good amount of riding on the bosque trails. I've been looking at riding through placitas and taking 165 to end up in tijeras, then follow old route 66 back to ABQ.

I've definitely taken it on trails that push its limits, including the trails at placitas and ABQ foothills/TR-365. I ran flat bars on it for quite awhile.

Summary
As a general rule of thumb I take a dichotomous approach to upgrades and appearances. This bike serves its purpose well and nothing more -I don't care about looks. I purchase all my parts used. Regardless of marketing the bottleneck for riders is the rider themselves, not the bike. I have chosen a no-frills approach to this bike and simply upgrade parts as needed. The stock suspension is adequate for my purposes. In my case the single biggest consumable for me are wheels and tires - this is where I spend generously.

Cockpit preferences?
I do not intend to ever get away from these full palm grips as they are effective for arm pump and provide a large touchpoint for bike control

Tires and pressures?
Ongoing. Typical PSI around 27 PSI Front, 25 PSI Rear

Nice. Those sound like some awesome rides. A buddy of mine has done the Around The Mountain (ATM) a few times that I think your referring to riding up to bernalillo from ABQ through placitas/cedar crest and back to ABQ. I would like to do that, but starting in Los Lunas would add another 50ish miles. I'm hoping the Railrunner starts running again soon so I can at least take that up to North ABQ/Bernalillo and start from there. Anyhow, cool to see someone local into the similar riding.
