TW Harlan, KY Meet in Oct

I'm planning on being there, will have a better idea come early september. I'm down for camping...or should I say laying my rear seats down and sleeping in the FJ

Hey everyone... the 12 year old(Brad) bailed. he wants to go wheel with FJs at windrock instead. he's ditching his original family!

What is everyone thinking for accommodations? Is everyone just gonna tent camp it or are you guys renting cabins?

 

Idk yet myself I'd like to know what others are doing as well

 

I guess we need to decide which trail head too. Putney or Evarts as that will determine where we camp too. I'm probably leaning towards the cabin route as I've grown accustomed to a nice hot shower at least once daily in my old age.

 

Kind of a toss up as to which is 'better', Putney has plenty of space for camping as well as several cabins available for rent. Down side is trail head from there into the main park is a bit rougher/steeper and not as 'friendly' for those with pre-runners or stock vehicles.

Advantages of Evarts is that it is closer to town that has places to eat, gas, supplies, etc. You are also rather close to Harlan with fast food and hotels.

While there is plenty of places for campers and tents in Evarts, I do not recall seeing much if anything in the way of cabins for rent, then again I could have missed them.

Two trails leaving from Evarts are pre-runner/stock friendly.


I sure hope to make this trip, though it is starting to look like I may miss it.

I have to have some surgery and it may get scheduled for September.

Just FYI there is a nice shower house on the Putney side with hot showers at the campground.

This is where I will be camping on the Putney side right past the cabins in the big field that you come upon first. Going to pull the camper there.

 

So the putney side is the spot then?

 

When you say a bit steeper and rougher, how bad is it?

 

If you wanna party, yes
