We also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that
suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and
    character, hope.

    James,

The biggest step is admitting you have a problem and the fact that you were able to get that far is something to say and you have my respect. I wish you the best. Some members of my family have major alcohol addictions and I wish they would have fixed or even attempted to fix them but unfortunately they haven't.

    Best of luck to you.

Good luck to you. I have battled addiction as well.. I dont know what you are doing to help yourself but if you could get into a treatment facility that would help a great deal. Or some type of out patient treatment. I'll pray for you brother.

When people are in an addiction it's very hard for them to be able to "see". It's not easy to realize that something has taken over your life - a life that was YOURS, a life that you had control over.

Sometimes it takes falling really hard and your head to hit cement to realize that it can hurt you.

And it seems that you have done just that. You've hit hard, it hurts and now you realize how those around you that love you were hurt too.

And that's good. Because now that you realize it, you are on your way to healing. You now WANT to stop. You now WANT to get better. You now WANT to mend the things that you've broken.

And with that you are on the right path. Because now you know what NOT to do anymore. :)

It's hard but admitting your mistakes to those that you love will show them your intent on correcting what was damaging. And you know what? You will be forgiven. Yes, some will still be bitter but some will forgive you. And from there you can gain the strength to continue even further.

But one thing that I know, is that the MOST important thing that you can do right now.......is to forgive yourself. Because before all of this, and way deep inside, is the true man that you always have been. One that your family loves, one that your friends love. That true man that you, yourself... should love the most.

You are going to be alright. :)
