    They can be as pvc gets brittle with age. It's not that bad all the time for air lines in a shop. But on vehicles, the vibes and heat can cause them to burst. They're also not like steel tanks where you might hear a hissing or get a crack when it fails. PVC bursts and sends little pieces flying when it does. It works while it works, but when it doesn't watch out!

    I've personally seen one burst and an ambulance ride for that kid was involved after it happened.
