Disagree. Solder will fail eventually, especially on a truck. A good crimp between 2 wires won't break.

I've never seen a properly done soldered connection fail, on any vehicle.

 

I've seen solder fail a few times, that is usually on circuit boards though. On my boat I used the crimp and shrink method.

 

Yeah, circuit boards I've seen it fail, but never between to wires put together. Actually now that I think about, I've never seen it really fail on a circuit board, just seen the wire break off at the solder point.

 

You probably haven't had to deal with worthless components then. LG used to get these power supply boards from who knows where, but on the monitors that have them, they pop solder all the time.

 

i couldnt imagine a soldered connection failing, I shrink all mine.

 

That makes more sense to me, due to the heat.

 

I guess no one has fixed their temp gauge. I can solder properly, and I cold shrink every time I do, but vibration from the vehicle moving will cause a solder to fail. I'd always recommend butt splices over soldering if connecting 2 wire ends. No biggie though it's all preference really, I've made maybe 10k splices, some big some small but never an issue if done right.

 

This is true of almost everything in the world. DO it right and it will work.
