I don't remember what they are called but we have them in Idaho too. They usually have a spike looking thing on the back as well.



According to the interwebs, it is a Luna Moth Catepillar which turns into a Luna Moth.



Apparently the moths typically have a 6" wingspan. I've seen a few of those caterpillars in my life, but never seen the moth.

I believe it was hornworm posted above. I've never see. Anything like it. I was weed eating and it dropped out of a bush and kinda freaked me out. There were tomato plants nearby.

 

Hornworm works, haha but it's a luna moth caterpillar and apparently they love tomato plants. Most of the hits on google were how to get them to stop eating tomato plants haha

 

I'd like to see it when it turns

 

These fuckers will destroy tomato plants like no other.

I've seen them a few times. They are really cool. I just don't like what they do to my Tomatoes.
