    the hose reel? i would either fasten a board or steel plate larger than the base of the reel to the wall then attach the reel to it. would be more stable that way

    Similar here. Our "new" hood is pretty darn social, people look out for each other. I have the same problem working in the front of the house or in the back (detached garage opens to alley). The old alleys are unpaved, have some big trees, and some people plant small gardens along them. People take walks along them, I'll have the garage open and tunes going, and ineveitabely meet new people and spend time yacking. I'm torn between being task-oriented and just BSing with neighbors and getting to know new people.
