Their fact sheet answers some of those questions. We are new to everything other than stick building homes as we've built two of them. We are starting a remodel of a family home that we will sell in a few years and are thinking about our retirement home and want to invest in something much more efficient and comfortable for "relaxed minimalists" like ourselves.

If you have suggestions of other builders to look at we'd be very grateful to see them. We have the location narrowed down to three possible states now. Arizona, Utah, or Arkansas.

 

What is their wall construction / insulation system ?

 

We are just getting started with our search and all we know is that these guys come highly recommended. I'm sure that other builders come highly recommended as well, it's just that these guys were recommended to us first. Being a layman when it comes to allot of construction terms and processes I'm still learning and searching through their site. I found this video which answers some questions, but not yours specifically.

 

So they use staple up radiant and their wall R value is 24 and stated roof R value is 38 . Those R values are not high , and their claim that their R24 wall insulation value is twice that of a normal stick framed house is only true of a house constructed with 2x4 exterior walls . My own house has wall R values of 27.5 by using conventional 2x6 construction and batts with a 1 1/2" thick layer of styrofoam insulation on the exterior that also acts to control thermal bridging through the wood frame .

In slab or thin slab over framing for radiant flooring is far more efficient because the thermal mass of the concrete works to store temperature whether it is actively being heated or cooled or passively

I'm not knocking modular or prefab construction at all , sometimes a hybrid approach works best though

 

No worries, I asked because I want to know more so I can make a better educated decision as this will be the last house I build/buy as I'm done with dragging a house full of shit around to a new location every couple of years.
