Was doing some trails in Joshua Tree, we made a stop at a old mine and they were attached just fine, we took off to our next stop a couple trails and over an hour later and they were just gone!! The damn bolt just broke off. There was nothing I could have hit it on so it essentially just broke while driving on a flat/washboard dirt road. So pissed!! It's not like they're that cheap either. Only had a 3 gallon gas and 2 gallon water container on it too, so it's not like it was overloaded.

It's such a poor design having that kind of weight being held by one bolt and helicoils. When I got them I actually thought the helicoil would break first, cause I don't trust them one bit!

They'd probably be fine on a rack. :notsure: I wouldn't ever buy again though.

    This ^!

Thanks. Firsthand experience is golden. The low profile for laying the flat on the roof rack and keep drag down was appealing to me, and frankly, would take all the vertical sheer stress off that bolt. But I have issues rewarding any company who makes substandard designs with my money, especially when that expensive. I'll look for other options. A scepter on its side wouldn't present a much taller profile.

I'm curious too. My new bumper is coming with a rotopak mount.

I have seen folks post security failures on the spare wheel mounts where you can overcome the lock by simply spinning the entire can counterclockwise. Apparently it is specific to that mount type, but what crap design.
