    I keep the original paint and tooth it up with 200 grit.

    The only thing you need to worry about us if the new paint is comparable with the old.

    Find an inconspicuous spot and paint it. If it doesn't wrinkle up, you are fine.

    As long as you don't have any peeling clear anywhere. I would wash them with a red 3mscotch brite pad (part#07447)and some "scuff stuff", dish soap or laundry detergent will work as well. You just want to wash any contaminants off the surface before painting or sanding. After washing them with the pad and soap they are ready for paint unless you have peeling clear coat, it's not rocket appliance.

    Primer can help the paint match, assuming the factory used the same color primer. If you paint them chances are they won't match. MGM is a hard color to work with for your first time.

    And 200 grit is way to coarse. Unless you wanna make a bunch of unnecessary work for yourself.
