So on my road trip from WY to PA, my radio started flaking out on me. I have an older Pioneer DEH-P980BT head unit with all the bells and whistles, i.e., steering wheel control interface, XM module, HD radio module, ipod interface module, blah, blah

The volume would randomly go all the way down, all the way up and get stuck at one end or the other, continuously scroll through Bands, AM, FM presets...if I hit the CD eject button, the face would motor down and volume would go up while this happened only to go back down when face returned to closed position.

I removed the whole head unit to clean everything as it was a bit dusty, thinking there might be spotty connection caused by dust. Upon removal I find that chassis ground wire in the pioneer wire harness has broken and come loose in the plastic plug that goes into back of head unit. It wasn't completely out of the plug but definitely broken.

Could this have been the cause of my radio flaking?

Well we bought it with 97k on it so unless the original owner or the dealership that we got it from changed em, probably

 

It was a jap made rav4 with jap plugs so I think somewhere in the double jap metric conversion they are good for 150k and I have only been negligent for a year and a half or so.

 

Also new phone keeps changing jap to nap and other annoying things people from the south use that may or may not be words

Did that about 30years ago with a “family size” bottle of Wild Turkey. Took the broken glass label and glued to a board and woodburned “the one that got away”

That's what you get for not using re-usable bags!!! Plastic bags = bad!!!
