    I think you're onto something:

    Townsend Whelen also developed several cartridges all using the Springfield .30-06 as a parent cartridge. Those cartridges included the .25 Whelen, .35 Whelen, .375 Whelen and .400 Whelen.

    Oh wow I assume the 25 whelen became better known as the 25-06 which is probably my 3rd favorite caliber, on paper anyway I haven't shot one much. I'm a fan of light fast flat bullets shooting if you can't tell haha

    My son does a lot of long distance shooting competitions. He usually shoots a 7.62 but borrowed his buddies 6mm Creedmore and kicked ass last weekend. He's building one now.
