    Japanese attempt to recreate the conditions that make Scottish Whisky. Have to say, their attention to details is scary. My brother gave it to me blind, and didn't tell me it was Japanese until I went for a refill.

    As they go, I give it a solid 8 to 8.5 out of 10.

    Good scotch is always worth the cost. IIRC he picked up a bottle of single malt for about $70. The 12 year goes for around $200. Smooth as glass.

    My daily (now weekly, I'm not the drinker I used to be) is Monkey Shoulder. It's a Genfiddich/Balvenie/Kininvie blend (and I like the three by themselves) that is better than you'd think it could be. Damn good scotch, and VERY affordable at about $28 a bottle.

    If you like scotch blends, I also recommend Grant's Blue Label. Also smooth, also a good price, and almost as good as Monkey Shoulder.

    As Cap said, good scotch is worth the cost (to a point). I'd say you will not find a bottle of the Yamazaki 12 for $70 anymore; it's gotten very popular and the price has risen. The only time I had seen a bottle was at independent liquor stores and they wanted crazy money. The good thing about chain stores is they don't mark up prices like independents, but they also don't get the allocated stuff very often. When BevMo got some in I went straight over and bought a few. Love the stuff.

    I'll also second Cap on the Monkey Shoulder - great stuff for a good price. I always keep a bottle on hand. Another worthy scotch is Great King Street Artists blend.

    My Japanese and scotch collection (somewhat low on the scotch at the moment as I've been into bourbon lately).
