That’s awesome! He seems like a down to earth guy. I love his recipes - however most are complex and time consuming but are always worth it.

Decommissioned USS JFK. Docked at Philly Navy Yard.

 

The JFK was operating in the Ionian Sea on November 22nd 1975
While refueling the USS Belknap at night (very dangerous) the Belknap collided with JFK causing fuel to spill down the Belknap’s stack ( the fuel was from a jet on the elevator ) the Belknaps engine room caught fire causing the 5”ammo bunker to start exploding. Looked like Swiss cheese the next morning. The USS Bordelon DD881 towed her into port in Greece the next day. 8 sailors died and 45 were injured.
i was on the Bordelon and watched the whole thing unfold. Boarded the Belknap the next morning. Sad day.
Go figure the dates ..... was it the JFK curse we wondered ?

 

That’s a hell of a story. USS JFK is docked in Philly and simply rusting away at this point.

 

Is there some kind of coating on the old deck boards? I remember my dad and uncle rolled some of that thick stuff on my other uncles deck on a scorching hot day. It did not end well.

 

Our car club did a tour of the USS Hornet, which, among other things, recovered capsules from Apollo 11 and 12. I couldn't get back far enough to get a shot of the whole ship and the car.

 

Yeah, it's some discontinued thick deck paint stuff that was here prior to us.
