    burls are sought after in the woodworking buisness. I've seen them for sale for $1.00 per pound before. Not sure they they sold for that though. It's neat what people can turn out of a burl and the patterns/grains they can have. Plenty of youtube vids on it.

    It is NaOH and water residue that freeze dried on a concrete floor. It was below 53* last night and the building is unheated.

    So yes, hoarfrost is a very close guess.
