I'll put it into my perspective.

It doesn't matter if it's chalk or permanent. It's defacing public land that is views by people who are out there to enjoy what is available to them. I enjoy the outdoors, be it kayaking, wheeling or hiking and the last thing I want to see is someone's names carved in a tree or it stenciled on a rock. I'm not out there to see that, I as well as millions of other outdoor enthusiasts. People see this and it ultimately ties back to the Offroad community, be it Instagram or TW. Actions like this tie into our enthusiasm for off highway wheeling and it paints us as a whole in a negative light.

Sometimes it takes stepping back and looking at the bigger picture in order to see things more clearly.

It's GLARINGLY obvious that those trying to defend the DB have never been to TOTW, and likely never to Moab.
It is also GLARINGLY obvious that those same people have never had a beloved trail closed on them.

    Those who have, understand.
    And are sharpening the pitchforks.

I've never been there, but witnessed vandalism at the Petroglyphs in NorCal when I was younger.

It's sucks to see things like that for sure. Then people wonder why caves get iron bars on them or fences get put up to keep people out.

My favorite hiking trail got shut down due to vandalism. It was really sad. Somebody went in and tagged it up with spray paint. At one point it was too much and they shut it down. I used to go there at least once a month in high school.

I am not defending the vandalism. I was just saying that maybe we shouldn't threaten people over this or punch them in the face as you suggested...

I would like to think that given the medium at the time they did what they had to in order to tell a story. This day in age, probably not necessary given the accessibility to the world at our fingertips. Cameras and paper weren't exactly commonplace back in the day

We have had a lot of good wheeling trails closed here in Az thanks to people abusing them with trash, shell casings, target debris, and not staying on the trails. The more rope we give the BLM to wrap around our necks, the easier it will be to have them hang us with one good tug. Even being chalk, it still links these guys back to this forum and makes everyone here look like a bunch of irresponsible dildos.

Yeah but if I were him I wouldn't want to come on with the crowd at my throat. Kind of becomes a deterrent you know? Especially saying that we should hurt them...

That is how it will become everywhere if we allow it with careless shit like this. In case you haven't noticed, the BLM and this administration has been gobbling up State Land at an alarming rate. The latest grab is taking place in Utah and included Moab. The president himself cited destruction of land by UTV/Offroaders as the "reason" for the attempt on that land. This type of stuff makes it so much easier to just rip it right out of the hands of the states we live in. Just like taxes, once they go up, they never go down, well, once they take these places away, we'll never get them back.

Maybe the people he was with wrote his name just because they figured he was ok with it. And in the end he wasn't it was already too late.

    Truth
What are you talking about? Punching someone isn't illegal. Writing on stuff is. THEY are the assholes, duh.
Johnson Valley anyone? If it makes you guys feel better: getting butthurt isn't going to slow it down.its happening, to quote a local politician, "whether you like it or not!"

But at least we're infighting. Yknow. Getting people to argue amongst themselves makes the whole process easier.

I just perused the comments section of the Facebook OP.

For anyone who thinks it's Photoshopped, or that some jealous ex is getting back at him, or thinks this in any other way not legitimate, I encourage you to do the same. Be sure to click on the screen shots to verify.

Apparently one of the offenders does this sort of thing regularly. BLM in Colorado is also looking for him for a separate incident.
Oh, and there's a pic of the crime in actual progress.
