I hope so, as I'm just not too sure about my tires. I figured worst case if we get on a road/trail that some of us can't proceed further, we park and hop in with others until we come back to the trucks (assuming others will have room).

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.

Oh yeah I'm sure there will be room in the trucks but with 15 to 20 trucks going over the snow unless were going up a steep grade you should be fine. unless your tires are bald?

No not bald (got them last year and they're hardly worn). Michelin LTX AT2. They do pretty good until I try coming up my road (fairly steep) with 1-2 feet of slush on the road (where people have driven up and down it a lot). That's when I think I would benefit from an MT tire (or adding even more weight in the back than I have now...hard tonneau and 2 60-pound sandbags).

Yeah living up in Pollock MT's would be nice even if you just use them for winter tires.

For a meeting place, I'm gonna propose the Raleys in Placerville

Haha yeah. Right off the freeway. Big Parkin lot. Next to In-N-Out and a gas station. Prime.

It all depends on the forest service, if they open the dirt roads to trucks we are hitting dirt roads and if not there is a bunch of snow covered roads up Ice House road to hit. Either way we are going to be hitting some deep snow.

Yeah, don't do Raley's as it will be somewhat hard to find for some. In-n-Out/Chevron/Office Max parking lot would be best. In fact, there's a bunch of spots that line up along Forni Rd so everyone can see you when they get off the freeway. I guess I'll come down the hill to meet up there.

FYI, I would plan on filling up in Placerville, not Pollock. There's a Chevron in that parking lot and Safeway fuel (what I use) is one exit down the hill (Missouri Flat Rd on the north side of the freeway...near Starbucks). There's also a Costco in Folsom at E Bidwell/Scott Rd exit. The gas stations in Pollock are over $4 for 87 octane (I paid 3.89 yesterday at Safeway in P'ville).

On a tire note, I think I'm envisioning what I come across on MET when we go up it. You get tire tracks that are low and as the snow gets deeper you get a tall center pile of ice/snow that'll lift your wheels off the ground. I ran into that situation off one of the Ice House side roads in January. So anyone with taller tires is going to go further (stock tire size for me). But maybe there's more of you in that same situation than I'm imagining. At least with someone there to pull me out, I can push it further. I usually don't get that opportunity because I play it real safe when we're alone.

Will we know which one its gonna be before we head up?

Yeah. Once you start hitting some deep snow, and it's had the pleasure of being melted and frozen many times, those ruts can be a bit of a bitch. I used to go wheeling up Wentworth Springs Rd in Georgetown headed toward Ice House, and it'd get bad in some spots. I'd recommend making sure you have some weight in the bed of your truck, and just keep your truck moving. Just gotta use the first couple trucks to plow the ruts.

If not, the trails should have had enough traffic by now that you could even just put your tire onto the rut, and you could ride that line too.

I imagine so. It's really hit and miss as to when the Forest Service re-opens trails. I imagine that we'll check and see whats open a day or two before and that should be enough time to give everyone a heads up as to what exactly we're doing.

And if trails open up, accommodations just might be made :)

Yeah we should if the fire roads are open there is some good ones off Weber mill Rd 38.773134,-120.351085 that will take us into the back of Ice House lake or even Wrights lake but Wrights might still be covered in 15' of snow we will have to just see the conditions when we are up there.

Got myself a proper snatch strap, some more D-Shackles, the new book and a new tire pressure gauge. Also got some quick fist clamps to make my shovel/axe mounts.
