Amen - but don't forget those who come here already convinced they know the answers and are looking for reinforcement/acceptance. They're easy to spot because they'll argue against any replies that contradict their preformed opinion. Gotta learn to filter them out, too.

Also, 2017 OR DCSB without any problems, leaks, strange noises, rattles, vibrations, whatever, so far. The transmission is different, but not in a way that has hurt performance. I've yet to tow anything bigger than a large smoker for a pig roast, so can't comment there, yet.

I have had none of the mentioned "problems". As for the service bulletins, that's what they are there for, to fix minor issues. There are no REAL problems with the transmission or engine, just people wishing they bought a full size with a V8 and others wishing they bought a sports car. I did see one go through the auction with very little compression on one cylinder, but I'm not sure of what happened there. That's the only REAL failure that I've seen. Toyota designed the engine and transmission to work as they do, some people don't like it. You need to drive one to determine whether you like it or don't.

Bought a used 2017 and I am very happy with the truck, had the latest flash done on the trans and it’s been great ever since. I’ve experienced none of the other issues you’ve written to date.

When I bought my truck, I had the same concern. Enough reading of what people were saying provided me with enough information to know what really was a potential issue and what was just whining about not meeting unrealistic expectations.

Is the truck perfect? No, nothing ever is. Do I like my truck? Yup, I'm pretty happy with it. Would I buy it again? Yup, might go for the OR instead of the SR5 though just for the locker...... Of course, I'll probably just end up installing an ARB at some point.

As far as the offroad vs SR5 argument, I would have been better off with getting the sr5, but that all depends on how far you want to go with modifications...

I don't even own a Taco yet (that is another story) and the worst part so far is deflecting the HATE thrown at you for buying whatever gen truck the hater doesn't have... 3rd gen owners are the most hated on here though by far.. Wait I take that back... 3rd gen TRD PRO owners are, they get hated by both other gens AND non Pro 3rd gen owners lol

    I bought a 2nd Gen after almost ordering a 2016. Best decision.
The 3rd Gen drives horribly. And unless they replace the engine and trans no software update is going to change that fact.

I’m really happy with the earlier model.

Oh and seating position is an issue with all Tacomas. Its an issue Toyota refuses to fix.

I had my doubts after reading a bunch of negative things about the taco on here and they were put to rest after a test drive.
