Every vehicle has its quirks. And compared to any other small truck out there the Tacoma is still the best option.
You see these "complaints" simply because there are some quirks with the vehicle. Nothing seriously wrong with them. Just preference or in my case "hypoCARdria". I am a paranoid schizophrenic so my issues with my truck were resolved by taking the correct medication lol.

    Cheers

Every vehicle forum will make you nervous if you read the complaints. Hell, that goes double for reviews on Amazon! I happen to think you can’t go wrong with Toyota. My family’s cars are varied but the Tercel, Corolla, Camry, Tacoma, and Avalon various family members bought over the decades were the most reliable (meaning fewer repairs, less expensive failures) ones we ever owned.

The warranty has helped most folks here when issues do come up but honestly lots of complaint threads read like dealership relations are more to blame than manufacturing quality. Finding a dealer you trust goes a long way and thankfully this active forum can help you there.

The biggest ding on my truck is that the Toyota Way prevents them from pushing the envelope with fun stuff but that’s what the TW mod crew is for! If the Tacoma is right for your needs, don’t let quality concerns stop you from buying one. Good luck

As stated it’s want and needs. I came from a 2011 4Runner. I love my truck without a doubt, but I miss how smooth the ride was in my 4Runner and I have used the bed to move things around about 3 times throughout the almost 2 years I’ve had it. I’m looking at the 4runners more and more as I love the new body style compared to my 11’ and the interior blows the Tacoma away. Everything about the 4Runner TO ME, is more appealing as I seldom use the bed. I love my truck though and don’t let people scare you away from the 3rd gens. Very nice rigs and they hold their value!

I had a 2nd. Inside was outdated, hated it every minute I was in it. Thought about putting airplane sickness bags in rear seat pouches. 3rd tows faster and rides smoother than 2nd all day long. Faster passing than 2nd also. 18% more hp kicks ass once in that sweet rpm area.

I had a 2006 access cab and I went through SEVEN recalls including the frame replacement. I still liked that truck and to be fair Toyota did issue recalls and I have a decent dealership to work with. A month ago I stumbled across a new 2017 Sport at the dealership and I had to have it. We made a deal that I was happy with and I took it home. I am getting used to the way the transmission works and I really have no problem with it. It is hilly country here in southern Ohio and that's what the sport mode in the trans was made for. No leaks anywhere so far. I am getting 19 MPG in combined driving and that is better than the 16 MPG that my 06 with a four cylinder was getting. I am 6'1" 180 lbs. and I am comfortable all day long in the 17. That was not the case in the 06. More comfort, better MPG, more power, what's not to like?

I owned a Gen 2 for eleven years. No issues with my 2018 AC TRD SPORT. Yes the six speed AT is different than the Gen 2 five speed but for me I just got use to it very quickly.
I love the truck and in many ways it is an improvement over my GEN 2 PreRunner. One thing is much improved gas mileage.

For christ sake there is NOTHING wrong with the engine or AT transmission. They have had this combo in the truck for 4 model years (2016,2017,2018,2019) and they are selling the shit outta of them. Certain folks, mostly butt hurt 2nd genners :angrygirl::duel: complain. This forum is a small amount of the overall Tacoma owners and within the forum, a small percentage bitch or troll. Drive it, like it, works for your needs, buy it. You do not need a pickup or doesn't "fit" you or you don't like it - don't get it. Pretty simple. :humble:

People that go looking for trouble tend to find it. Plus, at the end of the day it comes down to how YOU feel about it. I personally love my truck and plan to keep it forever.

    Welcome to TacomaWorld!

Buy one. There is a lonely Tacoma somewhere out there waiting for the perfect owner: you.

Owning a Tacoma is like being in a loving relationship with someone without most of the problems (if your Tacoma cheats on you then you have larger problems that TW can't solve). Treat your Tacoma well and she will never let you down. Love her and she'll return the love. Live life with her while understanding the limitations. Yeah, there will inevitably be an issue here or there, or something you wish was different or better, but at the end of the day, your truck is going to be exactly what you want it to be. For the vast majority of the people on this forum, we love our Tacomas. I myself have two.

Equally like a relationship, once you buy something for your Tacoma, you.will.never.stop. Say goodbye to having a positive balance in your bank account. Be prepared.

Btw. It's a requirement on TW that you post pictures of your new Tacoma. We love seeing new Tacomas and remembering when our own Tacomas were and looked new.

I've been a loyal Ranger owner for the better part of 20 years...it really hurt when they discontinued it. I was really happy when I heard they were going to be reintroducing it in 2019...thought I'd wait but when I heard you could order one now and it might be ready in the summer, I decided to pull the trigger on my new to me, 2017 Tacoma Access Cab OR...it's the best truck I've ever owned...yes, the transmission is a little clunky, but I can't complain about anything...would do it again...

I love the new motor and transmission, and everything about this truck. Don’t regret my decision at all.
Also resale is a HUGE plus. Look at the values of the 2016 Colorados and others in its class vs the Tacomas.

On another note, just finished towing my sisters car from Phoenix to Flagstaff (about 6000’ elevation gain) with no issues. Had to take some of the bigger hills a little slow, but exceeded my expectations by far. It was about 5600lbs total.

I would most definitely buy mine over again. I've never regretted purchasing my '96 Tacoma currently with 412,000 trouble-free miles on it, so doubt I will regret buying my new 2018.

The thing we need to keep in mind about "forums" is that forums are where people come to report issues with their vehicles and seek help and for every Tacoma issue that's reported here, there's literally thousand upon thousands of Tacomas out there that are not experiencing the issues.

You’ll hear two sides. I’m personally gonna watch for a while and see what reports come in from the 2019 owners. With any luck the reports will be sparse and might indicate Toyota is slowly but surely addressing the major defects.
