Dont let the internet influence your decisions. Keep the complaints in the back of your mind when test driving to determine if they're a problem for you, but don't write the vehicle off by taking them at face value. Every single vehicle will have complaints from owners, it doesnt mean those complaints will be an issue for you.

Test drive to see if you like how it feels, Toyota is selling 20k Tacoma's a month so they have to be doing something right.

The amount of information and BS you find on TW is a very big reason why I have a Tacoma. I’m a DIY person and plan to keep the truck until it rots.

I came here three years ago looking for info on the 3rd gen upon release. I was ready to buy and then started reading the things you have read. I held off for a while, then some personal issues came about that prevented me from getting anything new. Well, even after reading threads on here, I went ahead took the plunge. I got a 2018 Sport in Inferno( which is now discontinued), and I am glad I did. Once you figure out how to drive it, the shifting is not a big deal. Rev that baby up, she likes it.

I respect others opinions. It sure is an excellent looking truck! Was also awesome off road! (What it’s meant for)

Just sold my TRD OR last week. Loaded with every option. Maintained 16 mph consistently. The auto transmission was without a doubt a deal breaker for me. Terrible driving experience. I just don’t understand Toyota’s choice with that.

For the price paid....there just can be so much more. Comfort, power, fuel mileage, and especially the finish of the vehicle.

Just my opinion. Do a test drive and develop your own. I will say....16 mpg felt pretty bad when my buddy got 20 plus with a stock Cummins that was towing all our UTVs and bikes

Mine will not be missed. Yours might be the best truck you will ever own.

These are all the issues I also experienced. Boy am I glad I traded in before winter to hear that assclown a pillar rattle again. My truck went into toyota 3 times for the brake shudder...case opened and quickly screwed over by Toyota with no fix for my almost 40k Tacoma. I waited a bit and got out of it. Happy to be in something different now.

Don't let TW scare you off. I admit the seating position of the Tacoma is not the best. But I am 6'2" and I am used to the seating position.

TW is actually one of the main reasons I went with a Tacoma. I know there is a large vocal group of forum members that are here for great advice and whatever question you may have in the future has probably already been asked and answered on the forum. Just my two cents.

Before I bought my '05 i was shocked it still had drum rears, but there was a consumer reports at the time stating the taco had best braking distance among those compared...nissan frontier, ford sporttrac, gmc canyon, dodge dakota...... Stopped worrying about it after that...

Anyone notice that the OP was the OP's first post ? His second post (post #8)states his common sense after a test drive and commenting on an earlier post and I think he has been scared away or thinks we are all nuts !

I have it easier than most because since 1986 I let my wife's 6th sense make the final decision ( I thought it was a nice thing to do ) except for one truck lol.
I research and agonize for about 3 to 6 months about what it will be and decide the model . Then when it comes to (THEE VEHICLE) it is up to her which one we buy. If there are several on the lot that are the same , she picks the one that gives her a good feeling . When we have ordered one and go to see it /pick it up , she also has to feel it as the one when she sees it . She has said no ! She has 6 new vehicle picks she picked , all have been trouble free and lasted that way for 9 to 18 years each .
I chose the one in 1991 ( she said no and I did not listen because it was a cool truck and a great deal )and learned my lesson as it went back under the lemon law . I hope to never make that choice again .
We are happy with our 2016 after some minor fixes as a first year model .
If you find one like this , keep it ! THE WOMAN dummy , trucks come and go !

    Still stock completely capable!
Like some have said before test drive! Test drive as long as they will let you! This is my favourite vehicle I have ever owned and would not trade it for anything on this planet . Maybe a Ferrari but then I would I sell that and buy my Tacoma again!! I have never experience the problems that some talk about but I also bought a truck not a car on stilts. I love my Tacoma and also plan to keep it until they don’t sell gas anymore! I would but my truck again any day of the week! But that being said what’s right for me might not be for you so drive the Tacoma go test drive a few other makes of truck and go with what’s best for you and you alone. If you go on any forum for anything on this planet and read the Problems you won’t ever buy anything as everything has its problems. Tacoma’s are fun look sexy and will get you in and OUT of the woods every time ! Hope you find what your looking for and happy hunting !
