Absolutely, it is a good truck.
-I got MT so no issues there, go standard!
-maybe I’m a odd ball but my first ride in it was a thousand miles to get back home and I thought it was one of the more comfortable rides. OR suespension was good on the highway.
-haven’t had this and we just got a good monsoon season. No issue there so far.
    - MT v6 has been good with no issues. Low speed it get good mpg for a truck and when you get on it and the rpm climb I find it has plenty of power.
    - no 19 inferno makes the 18 a good choice

After 2800 miles I'm meh on this truck. Yeah it drives well, smooth. But the steering is vague af. The seating position is weird af and feel like a Lego man getting in and out and I'm only 5' 8" so no clue how anyone taller or heavy fits in this thing. Let's see, there's no power unless you're beating this thing. Even post tsb. There are other niggling issues, I'd rent one for a week or two before you buy. I wouldn't have bought mine had I driven one for longer than a few hours. But I own it now so I am modding to try to help. I'm coming from a German car and Jeep background. Fwiw

That's a really good suggestion. Rent one or test drive a used one that has at least 5K miles on it. My '18 drives very differently now than it did when it was new...and it's not for the better. Good chance a low mileage one for sale at a dealer is probably there because the previous owner was unhappy with it. It will have adapted to the driving style of the previous owner so you won't get a perfect picture, but it's probably a better representation of the final product than one fresh off the lot. Those are the ones you want to drive in order to get a taste of what you MIGHT be getting into. As people have said, results vary.

I've owned a 1st gen two 2nd gens and now a 3rd gen. My 3rd gen is by far the best. Haven't had a single problem with it. The forum said the exact same thing about the 2nd gen when it was new and now that the 3rd gens are out it's considered perfect.

If you go on other vehicle's forums. You will find negative comments and mechanical issues with those vehicles as well.
No matter where you go for information that will happen. Negative things with any vehicle. I bought my first Toyota last December. A 2012 Double Cab 4.0 Auto 4x4 with 80,000 miles. I love the truck. After l bought it, l thought something was wrong with the engine by the noises it made. But nope, normal. Any vehicle takes a while to get used to it's idiosyncrasies. It depends on what you can and can not get used too.
I love my Tacoma more now than when l first bought it. Like others have correctly said. No one starts a forum about how they haven't had any problems with their vehicle today. It's always about people reporting issues, or perceived issues and come on here to find out answers. That's what I did before l bought my Tacoma. I read a ton of forums mentioning different things. But damn near all the people still loved their trucks. In the end l just went with my gut.
Glad l did. The Tacoma is a great truck. Not a perfect truck. But damn close to it in my opinion

Go buy a ford, GM, ram, then come back in 6 months....or for kicks, read their forums! No problems here, period.

I did my research and had some concerns as well. This is my first Tacoma though. I bought my 2018 brand new and have 0 complaints. Comfort is fine and I'm a bigger guy at 6'8" 250lbs. Transmission is a little...odd..but I got used to it very quickly.

My input to this is that i Love my truck. 2016 limited 4X4 with 52k miles. It has its quirks, like the transmission, the trip meter reset problem( i know there is a fix, but i don't use them anyways), and pandora problems (which as of like 2 days ago no longer exist), but truth is that all cars no matter what you get are going to have a few quirks. none are perfect. its just finding the one with the quirks you don't mind living with.

Anyone that thinks the 3rd gen is perfect is delusional. Maybe the 2019 or 2020 model years will be. I sure as hell hope so.

I'm giving in the OP the benefit of the doubt. As others have pointed out the whole thread seems like troll bait.

My advice to anyone considering a new Tacoma is to do your research, find out which issues are deal breakers, and which are not a big deal to you, then use the known issues to get a good price when purchasing new. It will be a new truck single owner and he/she will know everything about it. They will be able to get a premium at resale.

If this doesn't work for you I would consider doing the same research on a different truck, buy that truck that doesn't have the issues mentioned and go in knowing what you are getting and accept that the resale value is not likely to be what it is on the Tacoma.

Alternatively, they can buy a 2013 Honda Civic which is beloved by their drivers, have minimal issues and great resale value.

Those are a few of your choices.

It’s always worth keeping in mind that people are usually only vocal (or perhaps much more vocal) about bad experiences. The survey is reflective of that. The ‘loud’ minority.

Wasn’t saying that. I was trying to say that before the 3rd gens came out the 1st gens were considered superior and now that the 3rd gens are out the 2nd gens are. Just pointing out a trend on this forum, the same forum that’s giving the OP concerns.

I was in the same boat last year, read this forum was pushing me away from the Tacoma but I went for it anyways. I do not regret the decision at all. A lot of the problems I feel are people being picky about things, I have bad back issue and the seats feel great for me even after a whole day on the road. Regarding the engine/transmission issue, after the ovtune(1.03 still) I feel like the truck drives perfectly fine.

When I read stuff like this, I cringe at how little people understand about mechanical things. Comparing a Cummins to a V6, even when the diesel is pulling a relatively light load is just silly. Two completely different engine cycles and one that is just much more efficient.

I've had my 2019 Tacoma for about 6 weeks and love it. I waited a while to buy it after contemplating for a few years, but I don't regret it for one second.
