Yeah, Ryzen is on the AM4 socket which has next to nill for out of the box support for coolers right now. I'll run the stock one until they come out with better brackets for the aftermarket coolers.

It only runs at 32 c idle and 50 c when my R9 390 is maxed out gaming so it's not like the cooler can't keep up. AMD did a really good job getting their temperatures down with Ryzen. I'm running the 1600 version. No overclock yet since I'll wait for that until aftermarket support is a little better.

ooo 1600x? nice! Be the one id get if i ever stooped to AMD again.

Yea the review i read on Guru3d was impressive all around for the stock cooler and OC ability of it. Plenty of things to work out especially memory timing and support. But lots of room to grow. Impressive CPUs for sure.

Yeah I have zero problems right now. Most of the issues are with OC'd ram so if you stick to 2400 for now you don't have a problem. Once they issue a BIOS fix I'll step up to 3200.

I'm a huge AMD fanboy. Actually I just believe heavily in healthy competition and Ryzen is the first offering in a while that can compete dollar for dollar with Intel. So far this 1600X is doing very well at 1080p over a 6600k and I can't wait to do some GIS work with it. That's where Ryzen kills right now, dollar for dollar it just overpowers Intel on anything that reacts well to more cores/threads.

It's pretty amazing how well this is running actually for being totally new. I'm sure once Windows builds around it and some games come out tuned for it AMD will close the gap on the per core instructions by a bit.

Also I'm running AMD graphics (R9 390). Anand has a great review where they show that there is some sort of driver conflict or something going on right now with nVidia cards and Ryzen processors. Since most of the originally reviews were done with a 1080 or 1070 that really threw a wrench into things. If you do the same tests, Intel versus AMD, for frame rates with a Rx 480 all of a sudden the difference drops to under 5% one way or the other in games that aren't highly threaded.

Good ole teething pains. I'm sure as Ryzen matures this year and BIOS updates come out all of these issues will disappear.

Yea im sure the gap will close a lot.

There is no question right now that an AMD build is WAY cheap and offer very much the same performance. Always been the AMD way.

    So...

I can't game this weekend. I'll be out of town with my Laptop. I occasionally play Stellaris and CS:Go on the road but almost nothing else. It's a Core i5 Laptop with a nVidia 940MX dedicated chip and 2GB GDDR5 memory. At the end of the day I bought it new for less than $600 CAD which is an absolute steal even now for anything that can game a bit while mobile but man she gets hot since it only has one fan.

Looking at grabbing a cheap AIO H60 this weekend while traveling too. Seems like the Wraith is a decent cooler but during intense gaming she gets a little hot if I try to run several other things at once. I've seen over 60 a few times and that's just too hot IMHO. The H60 is a cheap fix which should help. One thing I've noticed with my Intel->AMD rebuild is that my machine now can flip from game, to Chrome, to Radeon Control, to Pix4D, to AgVault, and to Twitch with less than 2 seconds of lag when jumping out of the game. With faster ram and an i5 my computer would lock up for 30 seconds before when hopping out of fullscreen games. Not sure if it's the extra cores and threads keeping everything moving but it's making things like playing CS:Go while stitching imagery a lot more fun.

Also MSi released a new Ryzen BIOS that seems to handle almost all Samsung B2 batch ram. Time for a 3200 Mhz upgrade. I found out these are included so guess whose going for bling!

So whose up for playing some multiplayer soon?

It'll be interesting to see if this game can gain widespread attraction when it releases. The only FPS multiplayer game I can think of from that era that has had success presently is CS, and let's be honest that has to do with how eSports and betting have become synonymous with that game. It would be nice to see another option.

I have an all-in-one POS that's not even a year old. It's the graphics card that is killing me.
    These are minimum

I just signed up lol. We will see if Ryzen eats shit in this game. @PerfectTekniq seems to usually run a pretty sick nVidia rig, I wonder if he signed up for the beta?

Yeah. Is it a DirectX12 game though? I've noticed with newer games the difference between will run and runs well is getting farther apart.

50GB just for a beta?? How much will the full game require....

GTA is one of the bigger ones still, I think. And that's 70GB I believe
