Derek know's whats up! I dont care for 'em either. They just look unfinished and dont seem to have very good aesthetics IMO. I designed and built THIS, i'll be building more in the near future.

Yeah me too. If you look close at the vid, you can see the fender/hood/headlight crunch a tad on impact but for as hard of a hit, that thing stood up great.
    Agreed.

Here's the primary thing that bothers me about most of the "baja" style bumpers on our trucks.

On this bumper, the skidplate is narrower than the radiator and front suspension components:
My assumption is that it's for aesthetic reasons. They want it to look like the trophy truck skidplates, but that style is simply not appropriate on our trucks.

Trophy truck skidplates are shaped as they are for 2 simple reasons: 1) there's no front radiator to protect, and 2) they actually DO protect the front suspension components.
    0208or_01z2000_Ford_F150_Trophy_TruckLow_Angle_Front_Shot_Truck_In_Mid_Air.217212810_std.jpg
The LCA pivots are near the center of the vehicle so the skidplate needs to be narrow to protect everything while still allowing the parts to swing freely.

If you're going to spend the money, make sure it's on something that'll actually provide protection. My $.02.

Are ANY of these tube style bumpers DOT approved? not worth getting a grip of tix on a daily driver.

I think this is about the only Baja bumper that I have liked, for what I use my truck for I just dont think it is practical.

yeah, i like the tube style with aluminum plates covering the whole front. i think they cost around $1300, not exactly cheap.

here's a first gen similar style, not SDHQ
