Here's the reply I got from the Focal technician concerning using their speakers directly replacing the factory speakers when you have a JBL system.

The JBL and JBL Synthesis systems can be quite tricky to work with it, and our Integration line is designed as simple OEM replacement and upgrade in base model audio packages. Utilizing an aftermarket amplifier in your truck is likely the best solution.

Just an FYI, I tried to hook up new speakers and an Alpine amp...waste of time. First hooked up the amp on the speaker side of the factory JBL amp. Since the output on that side will direct to either the front speaker or tweeter, it would only run one or the other even with a cross-over between them. So then I tried to tap in the amp off the head unit (Alpine has dip switch so you can tap into either speaker side or HU low lever side)...nothing. Boxed it up and bagged the project.

The moral to the story is, if you have a factory JBL and want to upgrade, plan on replacing the entire system.

I have a tweeter in my passenger side door that is messed up in my 2011 sport. Gets all screechy and distorted if turned very high.. Some of the info in here has me confused.. Is it not just a plug and play kind of replacement?

Non JBL it is, JBL it's not. The JBL amp does all the cross-over and distribution. The output from that is feeding speakers (JBL system speakers) with different ohm ratings than typical aftermarket speakers. I did a direct swap with aftermarket speakers, but they sounded worse than the factory ones...just one of the many exercises I did.

I went Rockford Fosgate 1" tweets, then ordered the adapters from MrMarv. Sounds killer.
