Your best bet would be an adapter from inchworm. They probably don't make it yet but your dollars could make it happen

Having no intimate mechanical understanding, I get the feeling that a true dual stick would require a new t-case with an appropriate selector-mabob, since our t-case uses electricity to jigger its mahoozle.

That's how it's done for the 2nd gens. Most replace the Tacoma case with the mechanical one from an FJ. The FJ case has the same casing but entirely different guts.

Inchworm makes adapter plates for mating transmissions and transfer cases but they'd need a 3rd gen transmission to make one. Plus you'd need to figure out a transfer case that would play nice with the rest of the 4wd system. Basically you need a crazy person like @awsumdc who is willing to cut up a brand new truck and be a guinea pig.

That would be my thought. Different transfer case after the trans. I think it would look like
    Trans>adapter>tcase>adapter>tcase
Would be kinda long depending on which tcase combo was installed. Rear drive shaft might end up a bit short and would make for a steeper angle. Maybe a expensive multi speed transfer case might be the better option. We will see what the aftermarket produces.

And the benefit of this is...

Certainty in gear selection? No dependence on software/electronics in the critical path engaging/disengaging 4x4? Simplicity of maintenance?

When I saw his t-case picture in the manual thread, I got all excited that he was putting it in his 3rd gen...

Mechanical transfer case allows you to remove all electronics from engaging 4wd, move a lever to get 4 spinny wheels. Less electronics means less possible failure points.

I had a Twin Stick in my Wrangler. Essentially it allows you to control the front and rear differentials separately. Meaning you could have rear-hi, rear-low, front-hi, and front-low.

It becomes most useful around a tight corner on a narrow trail, allowing you to "dig" with only the front axle, instead of having some power to the rear axle causing the vehicle to overshoot the turn if it is slick terrain. Another advantage is if one of your driveshafts breaks, or if you axle shaft or whatever snaps then you can disengage that differential and limp home with the remainder.

Works differently on Toyotas, twin sticking the transfer case allows you to separately control 2wd/4wd and 4H/N/4L.

Ah yes, that's what I thought. I'm familiar with the Toyota version where you can basically go 2H/2L/4H/4L. The Jeep one sounds much more crazy.

    This is what you need.

23 spline toyota gear driven tcase, then contact marlin crawler for the dual case setup, though I'd look for it used myself.

Yes. They are, But are often found together. I would vote both if it were reasonable in price.

Generally If buying used the rear case already has the twins. So kill 2 birds one stone.

My geared case was a front shift design from the turbo truck. So I'd have to convert it to top shift before I could twin stick it anyways, and I don't think it's too cheap.
