What they are talking is not simply mods, it's something that there's no instructions to. So building.

Yes, but I'm just saying since people keep mentioning duals when op only asked about manual t case with twin sticks.
I have the FJ case in my 2nd gen with twin sticks. Didn't want to do duals or a crawlbox because the low range seems low enough with the torque of the 4.0.

Same thing. Mods are mods. Bolt on or custom.

I just meant I'm way overboard on mine. This goes beyond that.

More like I'm surprised someone is using a 2016 to the extent of needing to do this. Not that something is wrong with it.

I had dual cases and twin sticked the rear case on my old 4Runner. Had 2.28 in front case, 4.8 in the rear. Loved it. With the way this motor revs, duals would be nice option even if both cases are 2.28.

On the subject of sas in a third gen, when I brought it up last year some here were a little bothered. I ended up changing my mind, but I still think about it from time to time. Yes it expensive, but after having had a solid axle up front and duals with locked front and rear, it's hard to be that kind of capability

My truck was only 3 years old when I started :D
I'll probably get a crawlbox or something after the SAS is totally done.

Don't let people on here influence your decisions. Decide what you need and want and then go for it ;)

I liked what I heard. Hearing both sides of the argument was good. I ended up changing my mind because I was being realistic with what I am going to do with this truck. That and my wife said I can get a crawler/utv for our family to play with.

I'm well over $10K just in the front. Just spent $4k in wheels and tires too. Once the front is done, gonna get a beefier rear.

Looks amazing, but aren't the 2nd and 3rd gens a bit heavy for birfs and toyota style axles. Should've rockjocked

Auto transmission Transfer case out of an FJ is the same dimensions as our Transfer case. I'm thinking you might have to swap the input shafts between the 2 cases. Then there is getting the shifter in the correct location to worry about. The final hurdle we will have is defeating the 4wd controller on the truck. This could cause us some difficulties.

I have a 4runner and both flavors of FJ case setting in my garage. Later on down the line I'll start playing around with it.

Tim with Inchworm (now part of LowRange) and Marlin / @BigMike are going to be the tip of the spear on this information. When I get ready to start on mine I will be relying on all three of them for information. Most of my dealings with Toyota drive trains has been with R series transmissions and RF1A Transfer cases.

Believe me it has crossed my mind. I have seriously debated with parting out the crawler to build up my 3rd gen.

This would only be a good idea if you do a full after market geared and shafted RF1A case. The weight alone of a 3rd gen would kill stock 23 spline internals.

RCV axles, Diamond, Ruff Stuff and Marlin Crawler are all making components that can handle it.

Not super experienced in this area of the Tacoma, but I did read somewhere that the current Hilux manual shift transfer case is near identical to the 3rd gen Tacoma, with the only difference being the manual shift vs. automatic.
