    If I think I know what you mean .... extend the belt fully and check again. IF still there, fully extend and fold the belt on an angle (i.e. 30 deg) right at the retractor and try to gently push it back in when it tries to retract ... I did mine a couple tie years ago ..

    You can "spin" the bracket at the floor. My wife managed to get ours twisted somehow and this fixed it.

    You are absolutely right,it must be old age,spin it at the floor and you are good to go,I could never figure out how it got twisted in the first place.
