I've had my '24 Limited Hybrid for 2 months and just rolled over 1800 miles. Going out this evening picking up dinner and the acceleration became a pulsing sensation. Now I have felt, when the transmission goes strictly from the electric motor to the engine suppling power, when accelerating slowly that it does 'clunk' a bit changing torque source but this pulsing was not good. A couple of minutes later the dash starts flashing alerts of 'System Malfuction', 'Check Engine', "Drive-Start Control Malfunction' and 'Visit Your Dealer'. Ya think! Never have I ever had a brand new vehicle fail like this. WTF Toyota? So guess I have to park my brand new pickup all weekend and wait to take it in to the dealer for my 'visit'. Something tells me I will NOT be a happy customer when I pull into the service bay and I suspect the tech will also not be having a good day either after checking me in. No it's not his fault my brand new truck died but he will be the face and first point of contact of Toyota dealing with a very very unhappy customer.

Could be something simple to fix like a bad battery.

I mean stuff happens, let them fix it, you have a brand new product that has some kinks to work out.

Showing up angry at the service department won't help at all.

Polite but firm. Never just accept the ''I cleared the code and can't find anything wrong'' game if you think something serious is going on. Tell them you want the codes so you can look them up also.

Sucks but yeah, first model year shit happens. It could happen to anyone at some point. Work with the staff instead of against them, may make a smoother process for all.

The pulsing is simply the vehicle going into failsafe mode...
    But could be anything....
Theyre not going to clear it & send you on your way as speculated above...
Dont be a douche & things will get handled...
Could be serious, may be nothing, my guess, its serious.....
does your VIN fall under the trans concern?

Hope you get it fixed quickly. The problem with all new vehicles, especially the hybrid models, too damn much technology. Too bad we can't get basic long lasting trucks anymore. As much as I really like the new tacoma, just can't do it, or any new truck for that matter. Too much money for shit.

I remember when you might have a rattle or loose trim but the companies worked out the "kinks" that would leave people stranded, BEFORE they sent the product to market. Now, the customer becomes an unpaid guinea pig to wok out the "kinks" for the company. Good deal for the company. Not so much for the customer. But companies will continue with this method because there are too many fan boys who will make excuses for any defect instead of demanding their favorite company step up it's game so they won't be embarrassed. This is why I've held off for almost three years buying ANY brand mid size truck. I just won't accept substandard quality, or inflated prices.

Just go full Karen and ask to speak to a manager. I think if you make yourself look like awful person they will give you extra help. Maybe insult them on a personal level as well.

    Totally agree.

It is definitely frustrating for an expensive new vehicle to crap out. It's fair to say that is just about the last thing one would expect from a new TOYOTA. But that's part of the risk of being an early adopter and buying the first year of a new model. I had a similar experience with the "new" Ridgeline in 2017 which needed all its fuel injectors replaced in its first year, and its well-advertised 2-way tailgate stuck shut.

I would suggest calling first and saying something along the lines of " I'm having a fairly serious problem with my new Tacoma, and want to make arrangements to have it towed to the dealership for repair". Give them an opportunity to ask questions. Give them some time and space to make a few calls which can only benefit you. They'll be more effective and you'll be better off if you don't confront them.

And of course ask if it's possible to get a loaner for a few days while they sort things out.

    Just my 2 cents.

That's exactly what I was wondering. It's obvious that some are here to troll.

Two vehicles that I've never had to take to the service department. One is two years old and the other is six years old.

Not trolling at all. I just find it amazing that the diehard fans of an auto company, and it doesn't matter which brand, when faced with the fact that there are defects with that vehicle, would rather take the easy way out to save face and ignore and make excuses rather than help persuade that company to do better by voicing that expectation. And then those fans get so butt hurt when someone points that out. It's like these Forums only exist if you're going to tow the line and do nothing but praise. Sorry, but I'm a realist. We have become far too willing to accept just anything. Any manufacturer is happy to make more money by not doing better if they believe their base customer is willing to accept that. I'm not bashing Toyota alone. I had even considered getting a Santa Cruz and researched them for a while. Now there's an example of a company that needs to do better.

So you want me to list the make and models so that you can deflect from the factual points I made and try to find something online that ever went wrong with them. No thanks. Not playing.
