I just wonder why a non-Tacoma owner would be here.

Because I was extremely interested in the new model. I had considered the Tacoma for a couple years but I just didn't like the interior at all or the transmission. It's frustrating when you wait and look forward to getting that new model and discover that it has some serious issues for some folks right out of the box. These Forums are not just for owners you know. They're also for prospective owners who want to get real world info before they shell out $50k. If not they should add to the rules "This Forum is only for fan boy owners who want to have an echo chamber because they can't take criticism".

luckily this guy wasn’t using his truck off road camping or in the middle of nowhere or even on road far from home, would have been a biggie. Not to mention dude paid a lot of money thinking he would have a reliable rig to be inconvenienced at best. Nothing worse than have a rig you can’t trust

Not really. I’m just wondering why you don’t state you have a Jeep and a Dodge. At least your past posts indicate that’s likely. It’s really immaterial anyway.

I understand your points about quality, and not letting Toyota off the hook. We all want Toyota to be the best.

Here’s to hoping you become a Tacoma owner some day.

You looked at the previous generation and didn't like the tranny?

Can see that, sure. Sometimes the manufacturers think that's okay as well which really incenses me, and the reason I'll never own a GM as a daily driver.

I'm not a diehard per se but so far with this truck Toyota has done right by me with any recall/TSBs..and there were several.

I hope so too because right now I'm between a Ranger and a Tacoma and I really don't like Ford service departments. I think Toyota service departments are a couple steps up in competence. I plan on buying late winter/early spring. So I'm hanging out on both forums to keep track of any improvements. The Ranger has it's problems too. The 2.3 with carbon build up and the 2.7 with cam phaser rattling which should have been fixed long ago. I'll dump on anyone who won't get their act together for the customer.

Don't get me started on Generic Motors. I've been screwed by them too many times. A 2014 Shakerado was the last GM I'll ever own.

Service department? What’s that? You know how many times I’ve been to a Toyota service department for anything other than a free oil change? Once for the Takata air bag replacement on my 2016 4Runner.

2013, 2017, 2021 Tacoma’s were defect free. The 2017 transmission programming kinda sucked but for city driving it was fine. Cruise control drove me a little nutty. Hated it. The 2021 was great. I never should have sold it.

The 2016 4Runner was a freaking joy, but I wanted a new one before the next gen Runner.

I have a 2024 4Runner and Tacoma now. Planning on keeping them for a decade. The 4Runner for sure. We’ll see about the turbo four Tacoma. I won’t really know for another 10-11 months if it’s a keeper. So far, so good. At 1200 miles I’m ready to do its first oil change.

I’m no fanboy. But I like to get value for my dollars. Hence the reason I drive the Toyota’s I own.

2006 Colorado bought new and was a pile of junk..last straw was the famous head failure. Dealer who diag'd it told me $5k job. I found the secret warranty online in under 5 minutes (strange he claimed he didn't know about it), not to mention was in the powertrain warranty still. They got approval to do the job and wouldn't unless I paid cash up front. Second dealer took it and had a $2k repair bill waiting, and refused to release it without payment in full. Corporate said dealer could have got approved to do it free but they won't help me. FU.

I told the GM rep about my wife's 96 Tacoma buyback and then said "since you told me it's normal for a 4 yr old engine to go, tell me if it's more normal than a 13 yr old truck in New England rusting..and if you do, you aren't inspiring me to buy another product from you. It's not that the failure happened, it's that you're trying to put it all on my shoulders despite 2 warranties".

Same re the airbag..and the catalytic converter recall, think they did both the same day. Frame replacement 3 yrs ago as well.

Otherwise..I got 4 tires, alignment, sticker a few yrs ago at the dealer..because they had the best price on the tires I wanted.

UPDATE: FIXED!!! The input oxygen sensor was shorted causing pulsing power and 'clunking' feel from when going from motor to engine power accelerating slowly. Like any computer, and Lord knows the truck has many, garbage in - garbage out. Thankfully a very simple fix.

Thanks for the update, all useful info to see if it becomes a pattern or just a poor luck isolated failure..

Excellent. I was hopeful it was going to be a minor fix.
