I pushed my truck as far as I felt comfortable yesterday when the gas gauge hit 0. I know all vehicles are different, my Tundra had about 5 gallons after the gauge was pinned to the left. My Magnum hit 0 and my car stalled at the next light.

Anyone have an idea on how many gallons are left once 0 and pinned to the left?

Also, I do not see an indicator that my window fluid is out, do we not have one on the Tacoma, or I just can’t find it? Filled it twice now after the fact it was emptied out.

I cant speak for the Tacoma but when my Corolla went to 0 and was pinned to the left I had about a gallon. At this point the "Miles to empty" no longer worked.

Well how much gas did you put back into the tank? It should be fairly simple math after that.

That would be too easy to figure out and I didn't even think about that when I filled it last night until I started my drive to work this morning.

If you have one gallon of gas left in your third gen Tacoma, you better get to a gas station ASAP at all costs. LOL

Tacomas have about 3 gallons. if i fill up at zero, i can put in about 18 gallons. i've pushed it about 70 miles past the zero point and got 20.8 gallons which confirms my 3 gallon reserve tank theory. i'm in a TRD OR AC 4x4 if that helps.

Do a little more math then. About what did you pay to fill up, what's the average cost of gas in your area, that will get you a rough estimate for how much you put in.

So you can get 400 miles out of a tank?

Your owners manual should indicate ~ how many gallons are left when the low fuel nanny light comes on.

When the gauge is on E, there may be something left, but it's not 'planned', it's an inaccurate gauge. Just fill it right when it hits E, subtract the fill from the tank capacity, and you'll know how accurate your gauge is. Or isn't.

Perfect. Exactly as it should be. Well, at least I like my gauges accurate. Maybe others don't.

:rofl:Now that right there is funny stuff.

Just check and top up when you do your weekly or biweekly under hood systems check. :hattip:

I'll pass along a trick I learned. If you want to save some money on gas, just fill up the tank half way when you get gas. That way you spend half what you were spending.

Actually I have truly wondered about this. For years, I would only put a half tank in when I got gas (unless going long distance), thinking less weight.

But I once was told, if your hungry ask them to cut your pizza in 8 slices so you have more to eat, but if your not so hungry ask for 4 slices so you dont have to eat as many.

I'd call out what kind of logic that is, but I'd be banned for being insensitive.

To assist those who are now trying to imagine my answer, it is not ethnic oriented. :p

Let's just say it's the same logic used to assemble the 2,500 pages of the *affordable* health care act.

This is what I have figured. I assume our trucks have the same fuel tank.

Fuel Gage [Remain] (**To Full, first click)

    F line: [18.00 G] (03.10 G)
    3/4 line: [14.70 G] (06.40 G)
    1/2 line: [10.30 G] (10.80 G)
    1/4 line: [06.30 G] (14.80 G)
    Light on: [03.20 G] (17.90 G)
    E line: [01.70 G] (19.40 G)

I never went much beyond the E line, but you can calculate about how many miles based on your mpg.

I got it down to 20 miles to empty the other day, and it only took 17.5 gallons. So theres obviously a few gallons left after its hits 0
I don't really plan on playing chicken with the fuel tank to find out exact numbers, but if you're into that sort of thing, by all means, knock yourself out

Who has time for that, I just want a light to go on when I need to fill my window fluid like my last 4 trucks did.

As for the gas reserve, I just didn't want to stop in a shady part of town last night to get gas so I pushed it until the screen went to 0 then ended up in a better area 14 miles later.

I'm lucky if I get 14 displayed per gallon in this truck. My Tundra got about 300 miles per tank. this truck gets be 250 per tank.

My daughter let her Renegade run out of gas at college last week. She walked to a gas station, bought a gas can, but the way the Renegade filler is made, it wouldn't fit. She had Chrysler roadside come out and he couldn't get his canister to work either, so he towed it to a gas station with two wheels on the ground (which you're not supposed to do). When she started the car, she got a Christmas tree of warning lights on the dash because of the way it was towed. The second tow took two hours to arrive, and when she arrived at the dealership, it was closed, and the tow driver wouldn't give her a ride home, and she had to call a friend to pick her up. I doubt she plays chicken with her gas gauge anymore.

I don't understand why young people like to play chicken with the gas gauge and no parking signs.
