If you figure an avg. mpg of 15 gallons, you can get about 45 miles once the fuel light comes on since there is "approximately 3.2 gallons or less" according to the manual. So you had enough left to drive around some looking for the best gas prices.

I really like Toyota's hedging language: "approximately. . .or less."

They must sell a ton of diesel Colorado's out there. Doubt there are many half ton Bro-Dozers with six inch lift kits out there.

One time I saw this tundra stranded on the side of a busy street in the rain.
So I stopped to see if I could help.
It was a lady with 3 small children that had run out of gas.
She had just passed an intersection about 200 yards back that had a gas station on every corner.
Regardless I offered to get her some gas so she didn't have walk in the rain with the kids.
Driving the wife's car, didn't have a gas can and neither did she.
3 of the 4 gas stations didn't carry cans.
Finally after going to all 4 gas stations, $10 for a can and $4 for a gallon of gas, I get back to her, and risk my life in the rain on a busy street with cars whizzing by putting gas in her truck....she goes to turn it over, and the battery is dead because she left the radio on for the kids so they wouldn't get bored while they waited.

New to off-roading so school me. Has anyone used their jerry cans for moments like this? I would think the answer to OP's question is common knowledge.

    Wow.

I don't know anyone who is too busy to give a vehicle a 5 minute check over every couple of weeks.

Sounds like you need a vehicle with more pampering features......... Tacoma may have been the wrong choice for your needs.

Some of us don't have a love affair with our trucks. We use them for transportation, and expect them to tell us when something is wrong. I'm not alone in that. Most people feel that way. Outside of a car forum, no one's popping the hood on their vehicle every week just to look at the engine and see that it's still here.

I don't have a truck 'love affair' either. It's an appliance that I enjoy and it meets my needs.

While I've always had some enjoyment from all my vehicles (I'm an admitted gearhead) my vehicle love affairs were with the ones that helped me bring home trophies.

Most would look at the exterior of my 13 YO sunburned Highlander and call it a beater. But it's mechanically pristine. And yes, I regularly open the hood, and have never run out of wiper fluid.

I'm sure you are correct about how others view their vehicles. But like anything else in life, just because 'everybody does it' doesn't make it a good thing.

Over the years I've learned the value of doing simple inspections and maintenance as a way to protect and enhance the longevity of my belongings, while preventing me from being inconvenienced along the way.

there are actually a bunch. especially further south, maybe San Diego. BroDozers are so goddamn popular that no one gives a shit about gas prices. the price is offset slightly with Coors Light and Camel Crushes, although i don't know what will happen after CA raises dart prices by 2$.

Who really needs a light, I mean when no washer fluid is coming out, time to fill up.

I appreciate your empathy, unfortunately at that point I didn't have any left.
There was a driveway about 15 feet away, she suggested we could push her tundra with a shell, a bed full of crap, and 3 kids in it into the parking lot.
I didn't know what to say and just stood there like I didn't speak English.

The only way to jump her would have been to pull alongside, blocking one of the lanes of traffic on this busy street in pouring rain.
My desire to not risk death outweighed my to help at that point.
I offered to call her a tow truck, but she said she would just call her husband.
With a straight face, I asked her to please have him beat some common sense into her for me, and I left.

I wouldn't push it past 0. Not because you might run out, but because you will burn up your fuel pump.

The fuel keeps the pump cool. It generates heat. No fuel = hot pump.

The owners manual says when the light comes on, you have approximately 3.2 gallons of reserve left. Since everyones mileage varies, calculate that with what you're getting and thats the max you can/should go

This seems about right. My fuel capacity spec for 2016 TRDOR DCSB 3.5 6cyl 6 AT is 21.1 gallons. Don't rely so much on MID's 'miles to empty' figure. I suspect, you have about 3 gallons in the reserve once you see the amber warning light comes on. I refueled few times after going about 15-20 miles (1gal usage) after the warning and was always 19 gallons to top it off.

For the wiper low fluid warning, it's simple as others have mentioned. Just replenish and top it off each week if you tend to use the wiper fluid frequently. This was somewhat of a pain in my BMW when warnings come on for every single thing you can imagine. Sometimes less is better.

Just FOX in front and back with 85 BFGs, nothing that would make it crappy. 1st TSB update was completed 6 months ago. When it's a full tank it reads around 13.6 per gallon. Just stopped looking at it and said fuck it. Went tacoma since I thought it would be better MPGs, joke was on me, waiting for 2026 when I buy my next truck, usually keep them for 10 years.
