I agree! But the front ends can be swapped easy enough, that's why my vote goes with #2.

That doesn't make sense, V6 was only ever offered from 1995-1997 in the regular cab. 1998 to 2014 were all 4 cylinders.

Oh, I thought we were talking about the 2 trucks in the first post. I haven't gone through the whole thread.

No worries. Yeah I've pretty much scratched off truck #1 (the 04').

It's between the 98' 4cyl in what seems to be mint condition, one owner. The dealer said 10 is his best cash price over the phone, which is outrageous. Also, he had a couple of bad complaints pertaining to rust cover up about a year ago, that I read on the BBB website. He also said he's not selling the truck through his dealership and wouldn't be able to provide temp tags. Seeming a little shady. Even suggested I borrow a friends plate or use one off of another vehicle. Which I'm fairly certain is highly illegal! So I would have to go the MVA and pay 20 bucks for temp tags on a truck that I don't even know if I'm going to buy. Only thing I can say about all that is its just extra ammo to beat him up on the price. When someone gives you that price on the truck, its hard to even offer him what you know it's worth ($7k, if it actually does check out and is as mint as it looks)

    Or

The 96' V6 regular cab 5Speed 4wd. The dealer sent me some good photos of the frame and engine bay. Very clean, no rust that I can see. Also sent the auto check: 2 owner, locally to where it's being sold with no accident history. Good reviews of the dealership on google and no bad marks or complaints from the BBB.

The v6 has a 5 speed too. It would be hard to hold back, but I'm sure I could treat her right and squeeze the extra few mpg's out of her.

Just an FYI, 1st gens don't have ACCESS cabs with suicide doors. They have EXTRA cabs (the rear doesn't open).

Good point. I still like the short wheel base of the RC's though. Not a practical truck for me but I'd love to have one as an off-road toy.

I like the short wheel base too. My first car was a Dodge Raider ( made by mitsubishi) 4cyl 5 speed. Damn thing would go anywhere. I'd make guys in jeeps look like idiots. Thing had about as long a wheel base as any 4 wheeler.

That's kinda what I'm trying to get back to. I loved that damn car. I guess if I can get a V6 though, might as well.

I hear ya but up here its hard to get rid of a anything not 4x4 or 4cyl. They fetch the lowest price. 3k would be common here fir your truck and more like 6k for the reg cab 4x4 with the v6. Not 9k though. Thats wy too high, but common for a dealer.

I have so many things to say. I don't know where to start. I'll just let it go.

I'd be all over that '96 because of how rare they are. I'd give my left nut to have one in mint condition!

If you don't get the single cab V6, I think you are making a huge mistake.

So I've been in touch with the dealer selling the V6. His asking price is $8950. He told me on the phone that they would take 8 cash. I figure, okay 8k over the phone. Surely I can get him off a little more. Well he had a guy drive all the way from Ohio (truck is in North Carolina). He brought 7 cash and they didn't take it.

At least that is what the dealer told me when I asked why the guy drove all the way from Ohio, stayed in a hotel and didn't buy it.

I don't know. Before I even leave the house (I'm in Maryland) I want him at at least 7500. But that still seems like too much.

    Thoughts on that price?

    For reference:
