I would just let him know that $7500 is as high as you could go, the worse he can say is no.

    Stuff, things, this, an ADS
7500 and a case of beer and if non drinker a box of candy. You can't say no to candy, unless your a diabetic. If that's a case don't give him rice crackers those suck. But that looks like a nice truck.

I forgot to ask the salesman. Does that look like an aftermarket muffler to any of y'all?

Looks aftermarket to me, or at least a new one.

$8k is high...actually according to KBB value of a v6 reg cab Tacoma 4x4 in my area (California), in excellent condition it should sell for around $4 grand by a dealership.

That being said, we all know how Tacoma resale value goes. KBB values are pretty much worthless in a lot of cases when it comes to first gens, especially one as hard to find as this one is these days. Probably explains why he's priced it like that, and turned down (supposedly) an offer of $7k. Have you checked out Edmunds or Truecar to see what other people are paying for that truck with those specs?

His story about the other offer may not even be true, if you show up with cash in hand and offer him 7, he might go for it. Worst he'll say is no. Then you've gotta decide if it's worth it to you to spend more. I don't know man, that's a tough call...if it were me and that truck was in great shape, and I was standing there next to it in person, it would be really hard to walk away, lol.

I'm imagining how much fun having a reg cab 3.4l would be if I slapped my TRD supercharger on it

Walk in, go for a test drive. Try and find all reasons to negotiate the price downward. Offer $7,000. He will say no. Justify your offer using every possible reason that the price is too high. Stay firm. Then be prepared to spend $7,500 to $7,750...At the end of the day, its $300-500 bucks for a relatively rare truck. up to you though. Thats how i'd approach it. I dont think you can negotiate over the phone, it has to be in person to be effective. Life is all about risk!

To add on this make sure you take up 3 hrs of that guys time. The more time you waste of his the more he wants to make some kind of sale to make up for it. So don't only take a look at that one but enjoy the other cars on the lot. This is a tactic they use on you that can easily be turned on them. Maybe even go to lunch and come back, say its time for you to think.

Welp, both the 96 and 98 got sold just days before I got my truck sold. That's how it goes though I suppose. Wasn't meat to be! Oh well.

Hell, now I'm looking at a restored first gen.

Dude, that is not a first gen. That is a pickup, and a great one at that. Buddy in college had one of those, just like that one. Loved it.

Well it's a first gen 4wd. Right? That's how me and my bud have always referred to em. Third gen Hilux, first gem 4wd.

It was rebuilt by a firefighter/pilot/mechanical engineer in New York. California truck. It's damn near perfect.

Round headlights were 79-80, the 81's and 82's had rectangular headlights

I'd love to get my hands on an '82 again..

That's a classic but not a 1st generation. I love it. First gens are the first Tacomas.

It's all the same to me, friend. When talking amongst my buddies we refer to them as First Gen Pickups. If I'm right, they were the first gen 4wd pickups.

    Either way it's beautiful.

Got any resources for the years on that? Not hostility! Just genuinely curious, because this is an 81' and as you can see it has the round headlights.
