I've been in your shoes. I lost my dad when I was 22 in 2005. It was hard and still is every day. It may get a little better over time especially after all the firsts in life after losing your parent(s). The first year of all the holidays are especially hard.

My first was having to learn how make the turkey for Thanksgiving. My dad made it every year on the grill, so I wanted to keep the tradition going. Since then I have made the turkey on the grill at least 10 out of the last 12 years since he's been gone.

To keep his memory alive by keep the traditions going and even the quirky ones. Those are the best.

Hang in there dude. Know you are not alone in the grieving process. Continue with life and keep your family close. They will be your comfort and support when you need it the most.

    yesterday up at 0230

    today 0400.

the hotel bed isn't very comfortable and we have noisy neighbors it would seem. :(

the good news is @theredofshaw & @se7enine are some fine cats and treated us to some great grub last night. seriously. Thank you both, Jess and I both had a great time with you guys. Wish we had an extra day so you could show us around and we could hit a trail. I would've texted you John but i forgot my phone charger!

I blame the "daylight savings"! When it gets dark at 1600 i'm like - time for food - time for nap.

I’m with ya brother, lost my dad in 2005 also. You’re right, keeping the traditions alive are the key, especially the quirky ones. I love sitting around with my wife, having a few drinks and telling stories about my dad, very relaxing.

August 2014 I lost my Dad, then immediately after our cross country move (October 2015) to AZ, my wife of 31 years was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. 2016 was our first Holiday season without her.

From the lifted, polished Tacoma funeral procession put together from my Tidewater (SouthEastern) TW family at her service, to the constant support from them and my AZ TW family while she was sick, as well as the OUTPOURING of love and support from so many TW members and Vendors across the country that I've never met, if things could be easier, they were. Rarely did I feel lost or hopeless. I've had grown men at my house that I've met just a few times sit with me in tears, men and women both send gifts and notes to her while she was still with us, and have received more hugs than you can imagine.

Just as the past couple years have changed my life and outlook on what's important, TacomaWorld has had just as much of a profound effect on me. I do not say that lightly either. I always want to be a good human, and TW is proof positive, that there are soooooo many more men and women like me. We may not be able to save the world, but we certainly can save each other to some degree.

Also, as a 20 year vet, I have participated in many burials at sea, as well as on land. Most included bagpipes. Dad and Alison were also military... so again, bagpipes. For as heart wrenching as it is, it is also the most somber and powerful statement. Combine that with the long rifle salute, I've never made it through dry eyed. Let the tears roll, our loved ones are worth every drop.

I honor your Dad, and thank you and your family for supporting him, as he supported all of us. I was so please to be asked to participate in this endeavor, and see we brought you some comfort in these sorrowful times. Life goes on my friend, do Dad proud and LIVE!
