x2! i know the 1st gens had some issues with their lockers freezing up, but have yet to read about the 2nd gen locker issues. please enlighten us! and not just a story about one guy who fucked his up himself, i want to hear about a bunch of people with the SAME problem occuring for no aparent reason (i.e. no beating the shit out of it, or engaging it while driving 100mph, or driving 60mph with it locked).

My TRD Rugged Trail's full list price with bed mat and step bars was $28885.00. Toyota & Carmax discounts added up to $4700.00 so the sticker was about $24200.00. (I also got a crap load off due to the Tacoma buy back). I have spent just over $4000.

Mine came with the Baja wheels, and that's a TX Pro.

Those nice Wheels are "only" $240 each and are fake bead-locks.

Why not buy some legit wheels and be done with it.

Cuz those wheels are nice looking, factory and not cheap looking aftermarket bro wheels. Plus some states have legal problems with real beadlocks on the road.

just quoting myself so you can read it correctly this time. you have the rugged trail wheels - the the rugged trail wheels are not the nice tx pro wheels, and as i stated in my quote that is NOT a tx baja which is what this thread is about, so it doesnt make any sense for you to compare your truck to a tx pro for us when we are talking about a tx baja... they are different trucks in case you didnt know.

Read: I am on my third ring gear myself. Some people may note that most of these folks are not having problems with standard road/around town usage. My reply to that would be what the fuck do you need 4x4 and a locker for around town?

My opinion, if Toyota is going to put those tools in the truck, they better build them to hold up when performing their duties.

Quit after the first page eh?

I have a 2009 and I've busted two OEM Toyota 3.73 R + Ps. That shit is gone now, replaced with Nitro Gear 4.56 gears built by East Coast Gear Supply. If they fail, the whole axle is getting ripped out and replaced with something beefier.

The e-locker axle has problems with strength for ALL years of 2nd gen tacomas if you actually use it. If you're just daily driving on pavement and exploring dirt roads, you have nothing to worry about

Both of my breakages have occurred at under 1000 RPM, under 5 MPH, and with the rear unlocked. Would you call that piss-beating?

Factory wheels to me normally mean over priced, poorly fitting casted crap that the manufacture is making a killing on.

Aftermarket does not mean you have to run down to Discount Tire and buy some God Awful chrome 22"s or lame flat black "Hot Wheels" with shinny fake rivits.

Personally I just hate "fake" stuff, especially if the real deal is the same price or a few dollars more. I liked the Baja's when I thought "Beadlock Style wheels" met the wheels where actually beadlocks, but now that I know their fake it's just gaudy Pep-Boys shit to me.

Ride Hight modification is illegal in some states/counties/cities... I don't see that stopping anyone.

But not real beadlocks. It's like rocking a fake 3 piece wheel with the fake glued on rivits... its still fake. Only there is not a $2,000 difference between a fake beadlock and the real deal.

if you need 4.56's in your truck to crawl thru rocks, obviously the 3.73 locker is not going to hold up, nor was it intended to. if toyota built a rock crawler im sure it would be up to your standards as far as gearing and lockers go. id much rather trail ride/go mudding, since i have no rocks to crawl or anything like that being in NH. im thousands of miles from anything like that.

nice, like i said, if toyota built a truck to go thru moab im sure it would do it. unforturnately, the TRD OR is not made from the factory to go on trails that SAS'd trucks have hard times with, nor was it made to do extreme crawling.

you hate the tacoma and wish you were driving a frontier anyways, so noone cares what you think.

    here ya go http://www.clubfrontier.org/

It seems like this would be commented more on in reviews and have stickies if the problem was so epidemic. (like the squeaky rear, ect)

I'm sure 99.9% of Baja owners don't need a truck either....

Its great the Baja comes with cool looking 50 state legal wheels that Toyota only spent $30 a piece to make.

But to whine about not having them on your Taco is just dumb.. buy something real, or simliar and either have the real deal or pay considerably less for something styled similar and equally fake.
