I would suggest the Toyota one is a similar $ figure , just added into the price

I think the TX Baja will be priced to compete with the Ford Raptor. Toyota probably won't be able to sell 10,000 of these per year like Ford does with the Raptor.

    I like the sticker.

You cannot build your own for cheaper. You can build something similar, something that maybe will out perform the TX Baja package, something that will void all kinds of warranty, something that may vibrate, and something that may very well not work as well for the intended purpose.

Simply searching this forum should be enough for anyone to see that there are many issues with, "building your own for cheaper".

I personally own two shops where I have more tools than most repair shops (AA degree in automotive technology and 21 years in the automotive industry).

I like the look, like the package, and want a turn key vehicle that I do not need to work on.

The TX Baja package fits my needs perfectly.... well, except for the TRD supercharger, and SE black grille and rear bumper that I am having the dealer add on.

    Good for you

I guess that's why they made them

I'm not sure why the Raptor has such a fan-base? The truck weighs something like an actual ton more than the Tacoma, gets 30% worse fuel mileage, is a bit larger, has a tow rating lower than the Tacoma, and personally I don't care for the look of the F150... and I worked in a Ford dealership for 20 years.

    Well isn't this just adorable.

In all seriousness I think it's a slick truck. The graphics are more than a bit much. But the price is ridiculous. No amount of wheeling and dealing with the salesman would get this down to a fair price (that being a couple grand more than your average TRD OR.). It's too bad.

the only other tacoma up and over a TRD off road worth buying IMO is the T/X pro, in NH there is no where to jump dunes and race in sand, i would much rather buy the T/X pro and put an OME lift on it and some big tires.... whippersnapper is correct with everything he has said, there is alot to say about your stuff when its YOURS and unique - not what everyone else has, and not what is being sold off the showroom floor..

To be fair, it's not for towing, getting groceries, saving the environment, or your wallet. It's meant to be a big loud gas guzzling machine.

Again, no he is not correct. The shocks actually do have completely different valving than off-the-shelf units.

Why continue to propagate a lie in a Tacoma forum?

Toyota Canada's pricing is from a time when $1 US = $1.2 CAD, and it stayed that way when the dollars reached parity. How would you like a $51K 4Runner?

    I don't agree with that 100%.

In general, I think the TX Baja package is better than many on this forum are giving it credit for, but you should be able to duplicate it's performance for about the same money or less (sticker price) if you pay someone to do the work (obviously you won't have the graphics sticker).

If you do it yourself you can absolutely do it for cheaper.

If you lift these trucks 2" or less and stick w/ 32" tires very few people are having vibration problems - I'm not on either my '07 or '12.

None of that is going to void your warranty for anything (at least in the US) other than the suspension components you changed. They cannot, by law, void your warranty for altering your vehicle.

Still, I don't think it's a bad package. I think Toyota will sell quite a few of these to buyers that want their vehicle to be set-up to specs by the factory instead of tinkering with it. I think the people that are protesting about how over priced it is are deliberately not comparing apples to apples because they would choose to do the work themselves or (in some cases), they don't modify their vehicles suspension, but like to talk about it a lot....
