Trip was awesome we saw the whole country, and had a great time. The Subaru we rented wasn't available for some reason so we were given a 2017 Rav 4 awd instead which was fine by me!!! The suspension wasn't too happy by the end of the trip though lol see my IG for more I have 1000 pics and a few hours of video to go through

    Now for the bad!!

Did the first full oil change on the truck as it reached 7600 km and noticed a fresh oil leak, unfortunately it's from the timing cover. I've emailed the engine builder as I feel this is their responsibility for now I'll just have to monitor the situation until a solution is found. My daily is down and out as well so I'm forced to continue driving the taco

Since I'm back on the spend money on the truck wagon, let's outline the plan for the next few years. We're going full send boys and girls as the title states. Plus I need to get past this engine bs
    2020
Arctic circle trip oh fuck ya bud

    2021
Will hopefully see TC +2 race kit with obviously king shocks keeping the same tall spring high weight capacity my mid travel shocks currently have
    Chevy 63 swap w/ 14" travel king 2.0s

    2021-2022
Triple sticks and steering rack upgrade

    2023-2024
    5.29 and 37s

    2024-2025
Adventure deck as I'm calling it, the box is gonna come off and I'm gonna deck the truck, headache rack with "dog box" which will house tools, air compressor, spare parts and my fridge freezer so the dog can have his actual in cab spot back. Low profile RTT rack because it's how I roll and various cargo securement options, I also plan to incorporate the current rear bumper into the setup.

During this time I plan to head to Moab at some point and I want to revisit Rubicon with the 37s and crawl gears, super loose schedule as we all know shit happens. I've been neglecting things here so I'm looking to get some spark back in the project, before operation family wagon goes into effect!!

Yes I'm buying the wife a turbo diesel 80 series cruiser

Well I got ahold of the builder today, and actually finished work early enough to get there before he closes, anyways the "leak is basically just around the alternator but not really above it, and it's pretty centralized to the area below the alt but no further back than that and no further forward than the for my of the timing cover. As far as oil leaks go it's a weird one. It also doesn't seem to be growing, anyways we both agreed that I would clean the engine and monitor it and as soon as something shows up document it and bring the truck in and we'll go from there. Which is good news.

So I cleaned the shit out the side of the engine and there's 100% a leak it seems like it's coming from one of the bolts that hold the timing cover to the block

    Clean

Close up you can see the fresh oil after I ran the truck at 2000 rpm from about two minutes

Ok let's see where are we. Oh yes, so the shop admitted fault on the oil leak, and agreed to fix it. However their warranty shop, closed suddenly as the owner retired and moved to Mexico, lol you can't make this shit up, that was almost 4 weeks ago. I'm at the point now where I'm just gonna pick a shop and send them the bill.

My daily driver decided the rods were better outside the engine than inside, so the taco has been pushed back into daily driver duties. Just in time too as my new 35" Dick Cepek Xtreme Country MTs have arrived :mudding:

So hopefully they can handle the highway miles they're about to get lol. Oh and I bought a house just waiting for the deal to close but most importantly it has a garage that the truck fits into.

Did you gut the cats on your stock downpipe when they got clogged and just weld em back up? Or were you able to find a test pipe? I have looked and everything i found has cats

I cut the cats out at the flange and welded in a glasspack as a resonator and a bit of pipe to meet up with the magnaflow system and got it all welded up. I also got a urd o2 sim so I'm only running one o2 and no engine lights

Picless update cause its raining and I don't want crawl under the truck to take a pic. Lost the drive shaft last night. The support bearing separated from the housing it was still technically attached to the truck but I had to coast into the driveway. Anyways I broke out my spare, and threw it in. If you guys remember last year before Rubicon I bought this bad boy

    d9ab7dac381a479dafbe1843ae305d5d_276f7f44c3f8aed640fb48268a05690b40021d9d.jpg

The previous owner had it sleeved with Dom tube and went with a heavy duty bearing, I switched out the heavy duty unit for a regular spicer unit. Finished it off with new spicer 1330x u joints and tossed it in the truck. For some reason the new shaft mounts slightly more forward than the OEM shaft but I made it work, however it's created more pinion angle, so I've gotta increase my amount of spacer. In the mean time I've gotta rebuild my oem shaft and get a pinion guard at some point I've hit it on something and bent the cover. Anyways I'd forgotten what it's like to drive without massive amounts of driveline slop lol

Well tbh it's been on my list for a while. I needed to do it before the turkey jam in Oct. It was also making noise on my way home from an OT shift so I had decided to switch it, part luck part procrastination

Ok sooo. Turns out it wasn't my Pinion angle causing the clunks, the yoke ears were hitting the cross member. Keep in mind I've just sorta made this shaft work for now, and my cross members are all bent lol. Added another 1/8th to the ome spacer and turned the center bearing the right way around. I might just go with a one piece when I do duals this is to much dicking around

Flex test is next I'd hate for this shaft to be my new limit strap lmao..

Oh and great news the engine guy called me Monday morning, my truck is being sent to the premier Toyota mod shop in the land that is the Fraser Valley, and they're gonna get this leak fixed. Not sure if it will be done in time for turkey jam but it's at least getting fized.

We'll finally brought the winch into the 21st century, got my hands on a free synthetic winch rope, cause it had a knot in it. Fixed the knot and the rope wasn't damaged so I scored a fairlead for 20$ and made the switch.

    IMG_20190929_143815_a6aa1ab427e2b15b7488385b6b3da4c73d5c17d6.jpg

Also I've roasted a wheel bearing up front finally after 286k km Soni ordered a doorman complete hub I'll just transfer my arp studs

Lots of snow on the whipsaw trail so the trip is gonna be a blast

    What a shit/great day/night/day

Sooo Saturday started with me heading to my buddies place to get his 80 series ready for our annual Turkey Jam trip. The axle needed a full rebuild as it had been leaking for a while. Spent an hour looking for his wheel lock key(he just moved so understandable) never found it so I pounded a socket on and spun em off. Disassembled the axle and began the cleaning process. This is when we learned the passenger side(RHD truck) had a blown outer seal and had been letting water in for some time. Lots of wire wheel action to try and clean it up. A metric ton of degreaser and nertile gloves. We needed up painting the ball ends to try and fill in the low spots.

He went with Marlin Crawler axle seals, and a TG rebuild kit.
We got everything assembled and sealed up. Except for the the hub bearings and seals, we discovered too late to order new bearings that the hub inner and outters had significant wear. We buttoned it up as much as possible and left the hubs till he can new bearings.
    IMG_20191005_160903_fd7a4f5e83a3fa1a9118252467ad1fcde4a3c799.jpg

Moving onto my truck we tried to get the hub done quick and dirty running low on light and beers only to discover the axle seal I ordered with the hub was destroyed in shipping thanks Amazon!!!!

    IMG_20191005_194814_54ff86060fe88cd3ed8dfa796ab51813eefe7c67.jpg

We packed up and ordered a couple pizzas and made a beer run and spent the rest of the night watching 4wd action.

Next day ran to the parts store and luckily they had a new seal in stock. Took a wire wheel to the spindle as water had done a number on it. Which is what probably killed the bearing definitely not 4years of running 35s. Pro tip get a buddy to help and use the backside of the old hub to help drive the new seal in evenly. Anyways buttoned it all up, did an oil change and mounted my skids. Well all except the ifs skid I was short a couple bolts.
    IMG_20191006_094242_f259d8a4e9be5c6a23257cecc5582627bf8f4877.jpg

Drove it home and it was smooth sailing again.

    Hey Mat

Have you ever changed your idler pulleys? I’m looking to do preventive maintenance, and I reLly don’t know if I have to buy it one by one or if it comes as a kit, and if so, which pulleys are included...

    Thanks
