This is only one mans opinion only but they spike a strong 10 on the dork meter for me.

Hate the star cutouts, super cheesy.

Hate the fact the company spells their name with a Y.

    Your truck yearns for better.

well define "better". i own a 2007 xterra since it was new and it is in near mint condition and has 145k miles on her. i have the 4x4 s model which came with nerf bars. i have had it offroad mainly on mountain gravel roads, beach etc, no hardcore and they have never had an issue. I love them because i can get to the roof to wash/wax up there. i didn't want to disassemble a new truck in order to put sliders on that cost, what, 700$ plus? any time a frame may move, that bothers me. especially if i have no need for that functionality that the sliders give. I sort of agree about the stars maybe but perhaps i will change my mind once installed and you can't see them unless you are going inside the truck, so who really cares? my only real concerns are ground clearance-and it seems they are higher off ground or plush to the frame so that's a non-issue, and the weight of them. what are the stock oem's weighing? are these aftermarkets too heavy for the bolt on to body types? probably not but who knows..

I say if you don't need sliders and just want steps, get actual steps. These are "steps" that are made to look like sliders and as a result they're not as good of steps as they could be and look like wanna-be sliders. IMO they make your truck look like a joke. Like you want to look like you use your truck for going over rocks off-road without actually doing it.

Nailing rotted 2x4s directly to your body panels would be a better solution that these cursed steps. My irrational hatred for them knows no bounds.

To me they say "I've never owned a truck before or even looked at one, but I saw these in a dumpster behind a collapsed Walmart and thought I'd try them."

I think i answered my own question about the weight. Stock oem nerf bars can support 300 lbs or so. that means these tygers weighing 40 lbs each isn't a big deal as the holes on the body can take a total of 260lbs more, at least. i weigh 185, so i am golden.

    and such haters.

    to each there own man!

I will report back how i feel about them once i install. maybe i will join the hater group, or maybe not. stay tuned.

Its one tough crowd here. That’s why I’m not going to post anything on my diy pvc & black spray paint sliders.

    so for future reference:

    https://www.tygerauto.com/i-1780-star-armor-kit-tg-am2t20048-for-2005-2019-tacoma-double-cab-textured-black-side-step-nerf-bars-running-boards.html#!year=2019||make=TOYOTA||model=TACOMA||submodel=CREW CAB

the install guide is there and includes the torque needed to tighten. It doesn't say exactly what to tighten to but it's 8mm so it's either 15-16 ft/lbs for 8.8 class of bolt or 22-23 ft/lbs for 10.9 type. They have a table showing the types of bolts and torques. Since they are 8mm i am using those values. I am not a bolt expert but i am thinking the head of the bolt is stamped with identifying marks. I know the stock oem nerfs are in the 15-17 ft/lbs range. Once i get the kit i will take a look and update.

    how to read a bolt-

for anyone installing these. it's a breeze. i did it over my 1 hour lunch break at home. doing one side at a time, i used 2 jack stands to hold each end of the bar up and crawled under, removed the 6 plastic bolt hole plugs using a flat blade screwdriver then raised up end up and got one bolt started and as tight with fingers as i could, then went to the other end did same then filled in the rest. i made mine to be as close tot he side of the truck as possible and snugged down to 17 ft/lbs- which surprisingly is quite tight after using a little 3/8 inch ratchet to snug down first. they look pretty good. i do notice that they drop below the frame about 1 inch but that still gives you 13" from the bottom of the doors to the ground. should be aok. There are other parts under the truck that are lower like the exhaust about 1/3 the way back from front. Only time will tell if this works for my uses. I tried getting up to roof and they are quite stout and they don't flex like the ones that came on my 2007 xterra and i weight just 185lbs....

my mall crawler comment was posted in a razzing sort of way and was not meant to be a negative. i will never wheel mine besides on the beaches of NC and a mountain gravel trail i use to get to a camping site. so no rock crawling for me.

Get whatever makes you happy and suits your needs. Don’t listen to people who tell you what you need.

This overlanding phenom is getting out of hand. People seem all too happy today to mod everything, like buying a $200 piece of plastic to turn a tailgate into a cutting board (real product). 95% of people don’t need sliders. Not too long ago, outdoorsmen would make fun of guys who were too good to sleep on the ground and who bought a $2,000 roof top tent.

I am guilty of buying way more gear than I need too and I personally love the overlanding look... but the judgment on this forum gets stupid sometimes haha. Buy what makes you happy and good luck! To each their own!

I think I'm gonna get some of those Tygers just to keep my truck from getting door dings. I wanted to get sliders for this but didn't want to spend the money they get for them, thx to OP, these are right up my mall crawlin alley so to speak. I mean I put an on board shower in my truck complete with a heat exchanger to take hot showers, and I've not even used it, the places I go camping have showers, or I made my back sliding window power and I never even open it, my point is this, if it's something u like or just want to do, then just do it, if it's not liked by others then so be it,
