Making them didn't cross my mind. Might be a neat project in the future and would be very cool to be chained on all four on the road, but the fronts offroad would not clear chains once they start tucking...

Good to know about the cam lock issue. I didn't think too much about it- I don't deal with ice that much, but I do know at certain times of the year I absolutely do need them for some places I go with the family during winter.

Would be kind of cool to put together some chains to actually do some wheeling with. Curious as to how that compares with airing down super low in heavy snow.

RIP poor shell. Hit some washboard stuff at high speed and shell went snnaaaaap. Enjoyed it while I had it, but it's time for a naked setup.

Broke right here on both sides. Had this been a NICE shell I would have repaired it myself, but it was a CL special with some chips and bad rough paint already. Looked pretty from afar. I just finished chopping it up and tossed it in the trash can.

I enjoyed it while I had it, but I really feel it's about the right time to move on from it. Going to cage the truck SOON. Root cause had to have been from frame flex in the rear for sure on some rough offset whoops at high speed.

Regardless, I'm at the point where I'm calling time out on this and time to cage because this thing has been getting more and more wild every trip out!!

Some shock tuning will help with the bucking / buckling too - if you are caging it, it would be a good time to get longer leaves and stay SOA with F67 / F55's or SUA with H70 / H70 HD's to keep your ride height and better rear performance in whoops and fast stuff. Here's an example at 11:25:

Def could be from flame flex, but campers/toppers on top of any kind of go fast rig get destroyed really fast.

There's only a couple of guys I've seen that run them, but they're AL campers and they're typically always repairing them.

Something like a softopper would be better for longer term durability with that kind of usage

I've seen that video a couple times. Such a rad setup! I remember him running the Deavers spring over caught my eye. Unfortunately because of where my IFS sits, my trucks angle would be out of proportion if I did the J67 pack over axle. Up to this point, I think I am pretty set on the Giant Motorsports setup in the rear. I know there are some other good ones out there too. J67 pack is on my mind...

I know everyone makes such a big deal about spring under vs over and clearance, but I don't think it's a make or break thing for my application.

In my mind, it's a long travel truck that can crawl, rather than those guy's trucks which are rock crawlers that can go fast.

Here’s a couple builds with 64’s. You have to cut some of the bed to let the inverted shackles clear but if you’re running an open bed it won’t matter as much as if you were running the camper and trying to keep the bed clean.

Thanks for the link! This one actually has tabs and a rod so it can be pinned back like that.

Man, I swear...you always have links to all the killer builds. When your truck is done no doubt it's going to be the ultimate mashup of all the greatest rigs haha!! Had a good read on the 64" leaf post links you shared earlier.

QUESTION FOR EVERYONE LOCAL TO LOS ANGELES/SAN GABRIEL

Anyone want to trade me: My GRAY dual gauge pod pillar for your OEM GRAY driver pillar/handle?

I need to get rid of this to run my cage a-pillar properly and just want the oem trim there.

Taking a total dive off a random end here to see how legit this is. I'm going to see what I can do to box my spindles in safe and best I can. I WANT to run the stock Tundra axles. As badass as solo's xlt kit is, spending 7K on spindles and axles is absolutely not worth it to me for MY application. Obviously this wasn't cheap for those who know of this, but it's cheaper than 7k and I can run Tundra CV axles still.

Solo and Bald Beaver Motorsports make those too - the one thing I'd make sure of is that they won't add any bump steer.

    https://bbmoffroad.com/shop/ols/products/96-04-tacoma-lower-uniball-conversion-6lug

Solo sells fabbed spindles with D44 hubs that will set you back $4k or so including custom CV's. IIRC they had made fabbed spindles that kept the stock hubs at some point - you would maybe find out if you called them.

I'm wondering if there is a strength difference between Bald Beavers and the ones I ordered? Looks like there are some differences.

I absolutely would have ordered the solo ones over anything else, but here is why I didn't:
    20211212_070752.jpg

What are your thoughts with bump steer? From what I see, it's all about geometry and this lays the lbj to the factory specs. Is there something that is part of the uniball itself that would encourage bump steer that you can think of? I'm curious about that, as that's a huge deal to have bump steer over whoops.
