I wouldn't want an auto, I'll admit that. Lotsa hills around here, and i'm used to wheeling with a clutch. Not to mention, I've never had to change out an automatic transmission, but doing a clutch is a hell of a lot cheaper, and you can usually find used R150's for not too much. Only had to replace 1 of those ;)

No first hand experience, but i was under the impression a very few 2.7's were equipped with the 5 speed to help with the lack of power??

Tacoma double cabs never came manual from factory.

btw, swapping frames requires welding as the mounting points for DC vs XC are different rear of the front doors.

Interesting truck I would love to have a 5 speed in my 04. I think it's a refreshing subject on this site.

I suppose we could start another thread on 5100's, 285 rubbing, axle wrap or spacer lifts instead....o_O

good addition. I assumed that would be the case. But i trust my welding a lot more than my ability predict how the ECU will react to swapping a auto for a manual. So i assumed swapping cabs would be easier. honest the electrical work involved is an enigma to me.

I fixed a bunch of old cars with my dad growing up. And vespas. And boat motors. I look at cars now a days and I don't feel comfortable touching them because of all the electronics. I am sad that my son (he is 2 now) is going to grow up in an era where he can not work on a car. I certainly would have little confidence in doing repairs that 20 years ago were straightforward.

The gentleman selling the truck in MT just sent me this link: it is a nice explanation of the conversion of a prerunner to 4x4. Given how often i googled information about doing this i am surprised it never popped up.

A few of us at TTORA did all the foot work already. Jeff put a lot of work into those diagrams.

I was just about to post that @Cadmus. Beat me to it

I was going to add it would probably be easier to get the ECU and additional wiring from a donor with the same setup. pretty sure 4x4 v6 would be the same ECU regardless of 2 or 4 door (extra wiring due to the 4-door for windows/speakers and such)?
