Nitto Terra G2 265/70/17 which I guess is a 31" tire? Not much bigger than stock but I'm planning on going bigger. Maybe 33"?

with the 265/70R17 no need to re-gear. Also note that if you do re-gear you gotta do front and rear diff $$$$ even on 33's the stock gearing works decent.... and maybe if you are lucky you can find a 4cylinder 4x4 truck that has re-geared and grab his 4.10 gearing for cheap as they will bolt right up to your sport's diffs and be perfect for 33's compared to the stock 3.73 gearing.

    Good to know.
This is one of those "duh" moments that I clearly didn't think enough about. Can't believe I didn't think about that.

Also good to know. I'm hoping URD headers will help with a bit of the low end torque deficit too. I guess I'll wait and see how it unfolds.

What size tires? With 33s I'm probably doing 4.10, but 4.56 is still on the table. The only reason I would consider stock gear ratio is to do one end at a time.

Gotta lock it to drive in any snow deeper than this (unless it's really light snow)

Im running 32's right now but moving to 33's. And i totally feel it. I live in tahoe over the summer so its more of my exploring and shuttling truck! And what lockers do you have in yours? I know truetrac does good on ice and snow to my understanding

    That is what I run - I'm on 33s.

    Great setup, and I tow.

Not really. Remember, it's a Tacoma, not a built Mustang....

However, it moves nicely, goes up a hill without bogging down. The throttle is nice and responsive.

I'm running 4.56, 32s, and a Detroit truetrac. Love this setup for a daily driver. If this was a weekend or trail rig, I would have gone lower gears, but 4.56s and 32s were made for each other on the road. The truetrac provides traction from two tires with minimal slip required even at low speeds. For my use it was well worth the money.

Wow, all this talk about 4.56 and 32 inch tires is surprising. I'm on 33s with stock gears and am very happy in daily driving. I feel I'm lacking power in towing and offroading. No lockers yet and haven't decided on 4.56 or 4.10, but going with ARB front and rear for certain.

I currently get 18 mpg in summers for daily driving, 15 towing my 1958 camper. Winter is about 16 for daily driving. I'd like to regain some fuel economy, as well as some power.

Probably the difference between the 4 and the 6. I felt my truck was too high geared with factory tires with the relatively weak 4cyl. Going from 30.5 to 32 just made it that much worse. 4.56s and 32s are what it should have been from the factory.

yes you have to be concious of the difference between the I4 and V6 6 lug ratios..... V6 is 3.73 stock I4 is 4.10 .... so when an I4 says 4.56's for his tire combo... thats likely too high for us v6ers

I went with front and rear arb with 4.88's (4cyl). Contemplated about putting a Detroit in the rear and arb up front (I have no problem with the Detroit in the rear for a dd). But when it came time for me to order I said fuck it and went arb in both diffs. Only problem I've had so far is gear oil blowing out of the rear locker solenoid, still haven't fixed it yet, no time or money to have the diff opened.

Okay so everything is being installed tomorrow. My plan was to go out this weekend for three days in pismo. Is this a good idea or should i break in the gears for 100 miles or so first

OK I have been looking into a locker but my ride is a daily driver and don't want the quirks of a locker or the expense of a selectable let me start with I live in fl no snow no rock climbing it is strictly sand and mud trails I will be running 32s with factory 4.30 gears do u think I will appreciate the trutrack or do I have to bit the bullet on a real locker?
