Hi folks! I'm running an 01 4wd taco Xtra can, v6 (5VZ-FE) and I have what I am assuming is a very not good issue with one of my universal joints and the yoke it's mounted on at the transmission output.

The end cap of the u joint appears to spin within the yoke, shown in these videos:
    https://youtu.be/gaSnNNNcAaI
    https://youtu.be/ULlRA35TWG8

The retaining clips are still there (c-clips internal to yoke), but as far as I understand things this should not be happening. The reason I dropped the driveshaft was vibration issues and suspecting bad u joint(s). Now that it's out I will replace all joints anyway, but I'm wondering if this yoke might have been damaged this allowing the u joint to spin within it.

Basically, hoping someone here can with in on whether I need/should get a new yoke as well?

Thanks in advance for any input and wisdom!

Yes the yoke "might" be worn but.... It would be a bit of a stretch to think more than one cap would seize to the joint and spin in the yoke. The cap seems to be both free on the joint shaft and loose in the yoke. If I had to guess I would say someone put in the wrong (undersized) joints. If the (correct) replacement joint presses in good and snug you will likely be good to go. We are only talking a few thousandths of an inch here, between "loose" and press fit.

If you havent rockcrawled it and broken a u joint in there, I would just swap in an OEM (not a spicer or parts store POS) u joint and that will probibly fix it. U joints can do some odd stuff when they get wore out.

Awesome! New u joints all around then while the drive shaft is out and see where it goes from there. Thank you both for the input!

I’m having a similar issue but the cap will rock within the yoke.
