So started hearing this kind of “popping” sound like when you turn the wheel and ball joints are all jacked … but this sound only comes from the back of the truck and only when hitting the gas or slowing down. I’m thinking it’s the u-joint in the rear after installing my lift about 2 months ago.I’ve the drop for the driveshaft that came with the lift kit and thought I’d install that to see if it helps with the angle. With about 78,000 mile I was thinking maybe I should replace the unjoints then install the spacer so I’m working from a good starting point.
Any thoughts? It’s a 2.5” lift (see signature for details).
Fyi… I have no vibrations while driving or reving the engine and the driving is smooth as glass. Just this new pop sound .
If I do need to replace them… are there better brands than others? Stock? Your input is appreciated.

Spicer replacements are just fine. I think they are the oem supplier. The only true way to test the u joints is to take the driveshaft out. If there is any resistance that isn't normal then they need replaced. At that point I would do all of them. If you just want to check the u joint at the diff then you can just disconnect it there. if you do remove your driveshaft make sure the wheels are blocked.

Thanks! What about upgrading to a Moog “Super-Strength” u-joint?
Note: chalk wheels, replace all - got it

Up to you on which to choose. Do some searching. I couldn’t tell you any recommendations other than the OEM spicers because I haven’t needed to do mine yet.

Do you think the noise could be something else? Trying to consider what I am not thinking of.

I highly recommend upgrading to the non greaseable spicer units. They have a white seal and have 3 o rings vs the 2 in the blue seal zerk units.

The greaseable zerks fail quite fast and are weaker due to the cross section being tapped for the zerk.

I replaced mine every 6-8 months with the blue zerks. I went through about 3 sets. The non greaseable zerks I have been going on strong for 1.5 years without any issues.

It’s could be. Inspect your leaf packs for broken leafs. Those can pop when broken

The RTX packs are new but I’ll definitely check them

There are different grades of greasable ones as well, so not all are created equal.

What would you recommend? I've only ever used the spicer units, which is what my experience is limited to.

Stay away from Moog...their quality has considerably declined...Me personally, if you do your own MX, and get under your truck alot, grease your U joints when you do, Id do greaseable vs sealed, just my opinion.
