Grease-less u-joints are becoming increasingly popular. Kenworth guy told my friend that the grease-less joints on his new log truck will outlast standard joints, or he'll pay to replace them.

Just took my new 17 tacoma 4X4 in to check and front two zerks were full of factory grease and they will not check again till 5000. Rear shaft is zerkless and sealed. Confirmed they do not inspect at PDI

The front zerks on my 17 took about 4 or 5 pumps to fill.

Here's my thoughts on that kind of statement.

It probably holds true, because proper maintenance is not being performed on the greaseable u-joints.
Technically, each time a greaseable u-joint is exposed to an inordinate amount of sand, mud or water, they should be greased afterward.
Even tells you so, in the Toyota maintenance manual.
I would speculate most end users do not perform this task; including your friend who is exposed to those kinds of conditions daily.

At least you have rear zerk fittings.

In my catalog it shows somewhere around 10/11 -2017 they started changing them over to no zerks.

If you have a 4wd you still have them in the front shaft.
