    Hi Everyone,
09 Tacoma, access cab, off road, everything stock.
On the rear drive shaft at the forward most point, nearest the transmission, the U-joint is failing. I purchased a u-joint from a parts place on the road last week, thinking I might be making repairs on the side of a logging road this weekend. I made it home without issue and to the dealership for repairs. That's where the problem starts.
I just received a call from the dealership saying the u-joint ordered was not the right one. No biggie right? Get the right one and get her done, or use the cheap part I bought on the road last week and get me back to hunting camp, right? NOPE!
They say the part has to come from Japan and will be over a month. The one I bought on the road apparently isn't right either.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Are the 3 u-joints on the rear shaft all different? I had the middle one done last year without a hiccup.
What are my options? 1 piece drive shaft came to mind but I'm not sure that would be any faster and certainly wouldn't be cheaper.
Any and all suggestions would be of great help.
    Thanks

Strange ? I assumed these driveshafts were all from Spicer . Spicer is north american company . All a guy would have to do is measure the universal joint caps with a vernier caliper . I am sure ujoints for your truck are available at most driveline shops and garges that deal with drivelines every day

You should have done all the ujoints in the driveshaft at the same time...

Ya, no kidding. but they wanted near $1000 for that and I didn't have the $. Plus I didn't see the point of doing 3 when I only needed 1. I did get another 100,000 km (60K miles) before I had any more trouble. Thought I was doing good until this blunder...

If they don't have a solution by the end of the day I'll start calling drive line shops.
I can't understand how a silly U-joint can be such a big deal to find. Maybe Toyota can't/won't think outside the Toyota parts manual?

gearcruncher, your Spicer tip was the key. I found a driveline guy in town who deals with Spicer stuff and he said I'll be on the road again before the end of the week. Thanks!

a 1000 bucks to replace u joints..... your kidding.

30 seconds on oriley auto parts website.... i could have 3 u joints ordered for 20 bucks a piece.

FYI prerunner / 4wd uses 1330 u joints in the rear a simple google search of "1330 u joint" will lead you in the direction you need.

Say whaaaaaat? If replacing a u-joint takes more than an hour, there is something seriously amiss. You were wanting a new u-joint, but it seems you're getting the whole shaft, from both places.
