To drive people around you need commercial insurance, not just personal. There's a service staring up called Wagon that will be for people with a truck to move crap for people kinda like uber. So far I think it's only in Seattle though...https://www.getwagon.com

    also... 4 full size doors

My brother started to drive for Uber recently. His work is such that he is on for a couple weeks and then off for a couple, he does it to occupy some of his free time. He drives a BMW and really enjoys it, you meet a lot of cool ppl and make pretty good money. He has put in about 10-15 hours over 2 weeks and made almost 500$. I think its great! He mostly does short trips around our college campus to and from houses and bars, can get a lot of trips in in less than an hour

thanks everyone for the feedback. i made a decision and said fuck it to trading in for a newer double cab and i dont think im going to bother with uber either, lol. i spent most of the day at the dealer haggling and almost signed the paperwork for another 17k in debt but i said no. im still thinking about it. i want to wait to see what the 3rd gens look like. the dealer was all like, well if you wait you wont get one cause they will be on high demand and cost more money, blah blah blah. i actually drove halfway back down to the dealer tonight, but the smart side of my brain told me not to sign and i ended up turning back around and came home. called one of the sales managers and said, ya no deal. they actually are working later than normal to try and close deals and might be in high need for trade ins or sales. they gave me a nice deal way under invoice so i respect them and the offer. but like you guys said. didnt we all buy access cabs so we wouldnt have to drive other people around and even resort to pulling the back seats out? lol

one other thing, until you actually drive a manual off road and put in some dirt experience, i dislike people telling me oh you have a manual? that sucks for off roading. ah no, you have to know how to drive one like a man and the degree of off roading becomes a better challenge with a manual. i am happy shifting into my six gears!

I have no input on the money aspect, but I can say that I've personally taken an Uber ride in a four door Ram 2500. i don't think it matters what kind of vehicle it is as long as it has enough seats/doors. I've been told they make pretty good money, but I'm also not sure how much I believe it. Even here in DC where 3/4 of the ride is just sitting in traffic and there is high demand, my fares are still only like $15 Maybe $20 during surge rates..

cool and the dealer called me today to make another offer, lol. this time with a 36 month lease, which sounds tempting. my trend has seem to be trading in for another tacoma 3 to 5 years down the road anyways. and with the newer models coming out in the future, i always seem to have my eye on them. lol, hard for me to wait the length of the loan and pay them off. however, i am so glad these tacomas hold such a great value, two to three or even more years down the road. i enjoyed the test drive of the auto trds. so you manual guys, even though you are probably like me and set with a manual, test drive the auto and see what you think. i have been impressed with the six speed on the tacomas ive owned, but i think a manual would be better with a sports car or other muscle car type. i have grown into using the manual just fine offroad but the auto 04 i had was also nice offroad, just push the gas and go!

I just ran across this take from an undercover reporter. She set out to test claims of drivers making $90K a year.

Drivers responded by telling Business Insider's Maya Kosoff that they were often making less than minimum wage, with yearly earnings in the range of $10,000 to $41,000.

When UberX arrived in Philadelphia, Emily Guendelsberger, a senior staff writer at the Philadelphia City Paper, became curious about how much drivers would make.

So in January, she went undercover.

In an article in the Philadelphia City Paper, she explains that on her first trip as a driver, the money looked good:

As I let him off at 30th Street Station, he waves goodbye and thanks me, and says he's rating me five stars. The fare pops up on my phone: $10.85. The price of almost two beers for 15 minutes of driving! And if my neighbor had taken a cab, with tip, it would have been an even $20.

But in the long run, Guendelsberger found that the numbers didn't add up. One reason was Uber's massive fare cut, which took place just before she started driving. And since UberX drivers aren't licensed with the company and use their own cars, expenses such as insurance and gas add up, while the car's value depreciates.

Over the course of 100 rides, her hourly rate averaged out to $17. But after subtracting the 28% cut that Uber takes and 19% for car-related expenses, her actual pay ended up being $9.34 an hour.

    She writes:

Driving for UberX isn't the worst-paying job I've ever had. I made less scooping ice cream as a 15-year-old, if you don't adjust for inflation. If I worked 10 hours a day, six days a week with one week off, I'd net almost $30,000 a year before taxes.

But if I wanted to net that $90,000 a year figure that so many passengers asked about, I would only have to work, let's see ...

    27 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Though Guendelsberger concludes that Uber's business model isn't good for drivers, she admits that passengers benefit from the company's massive growth.

Not only is the service better than with traditional taxi companies, but the prices are generally lower, too.

"Whatever my reservations about Uber as a driver, it really, really is better for riders," she writes.

I drive for Uber I drove probably 120 miles this weekend and made $85 in my pocket minus $25 to top tank off so not to bad, I also have an access cab Uber accepted my vehicle with out going to an inspection, my registration so 4 door so it is that maybe not with 4 external handles but it is 4 doors. I think tehnically we are supposed to be able to fit 4 passengers (only 3 seat belts other than driver) so maybe there it doesn't qualify but hasn't stopped me so far, the college kids think it's cool as hell to,smash themselves into my truck so why not. I'm gonna drive til I can afford to buy a 4x4 double cab .
